ZAMBIA: MUNYAMADZI The Season Has Come To An End

Wow Thor, sounds like a lot of scouts. If they are good guys that should go a long ways towards controlling poaching. Do they make arrests and control feral dogs, etc.?

Sounds like you are really putting in the effort to build a great operation as well as carve out your place in the community.

Is your area inhabited by local villagers similar to the CAMPFIRE units in Zimbabwe or is it different there? Much livestock around?

Love to hear more, please keep us updated. Best wishes as you build your future!

Yes it is a lot of scouts. Not many wildlife areas have the scout to hectarage ratio we have. I believe, to be successful in anti poaching you have to cover ground.
Yes we make arrests. We don't really have a problem with dogs in this area.

There are no people or villages in our area but they are close. Some of the land we hunt is leased from the community and in partnership with them. I personally don't know much of how CaMPFIRE is working. Livestock is not a problem here as we have the forever wildlife saving Tsetse flies.

So you can put a positive spin on Tsetse flies?

In the CAMPFIRE area I was in, there is a lot of livestock and the villagers are living there.

Half the money from the trophy fees goes to the district and half to the village nearest where the animal is shot.. So the outfitter makes most of his money on the daily fees.

You had a great season Thor I hope next season is even better.

Great season Thor and Munyamadzi will always be one of my favourite hunting venues. Classic bit of old Africa. Let us hope we get our cats back on quota.

Wow! Those are some great bushbucks.

Hello Thor, Your open hunting concession is 20.000 hectare, right ? I was only curious of how many buffalos they quote you for 2015 ? Also did you reimplant or reintroduce some game when you took over the concession ?

Zambia is the country that will probably be the ultimate African hunting destination in the near future when the wild life management (ZAWA) is in the right hands. Lets see after the election what will happen, the cats MUST be open again because Zambia is the country for Leopard, and there is nothing comparable on the whole African continent, and a big game hunting location with out Lion & Leopard is like a lake with out fish, some antihunter "bunny huggers" have looking too much at The Lion King from Walt Disney :)

Finally, I like to add that if you are a real sportsmen that prefer to remember a hunt with proud when you looking at your trophies, you go for a free range hunting in Zambia. South Africa is somehow a shortcut and you will for sure got what you looking for in RSA but within a fenced game breeding farm, its only my two cents but that is "not real Africa" !

South Africans will continue working with the color variants and blowing up somehow unrealistic prices for yellow blesbucks and copper springboks & Black Impala etc, they make enough money on that today and let Zambia and Botswana do the real hunting !

All the best,
Gordon

Look forward to the group hunt later on in the year. Presume your buff are all sold out?

Cheers

Andrew

yes.. they are.

Great looking trophies for sure and an all-around great looking hunt you provide. Thor, I know this has been discussed ad nauseam, but what is your opinion of the 375 for buffalo? Do you wish clients carried a bigger gun when they bring their 375? I've been looking at rifles and I'm hoping to go buffalo hunting soon.

HI Gordon,

Yes our area is 20,000 hectares. We got 4 Buffalo on quota this year and all are sold.

No re-introduced game here. Our neighbours have re-introduce Zebra and Sable though.

Thank you Sir.

375 to me is the ideal caliber for Buffalo. Yes a 416 will have more power, but most people can't handle it at any range.
375 with a good swift a frame bullet. Thats all you need for buffalo. And it is also kinder to the smaller game.

Just promise me one thing- DON'T GET A MUZZLE BRAKE! All PH's hate them!

Muzzle brakes are for pussies!!

Thanks for the feedback. I've hunted Africa once and got the feeling from that PH that he wasn't a fan of muzzle brakes either, I had one for my 300RUM, but didn't take it with me. I'd like to take a suppressor next trip, best of both worlds, reduced sound and recoil. Now, to talk my wife into the fact that I 'need' a new rifle.
