I started to think about how it would feel to be in a foreign country for the first time and be stuck in a hotel.
Yeesh!

I knew Pieter Erasmus (PawPrint) had not ever been to Canada before (just by the posts) and I did not want his experience of Western Canada to be restricted to an urban area.
So, I decided to text/SMS after he had settled in.

"Would you be interested in a Day Trip to the Mountains?"

"Yes, that would be nice"
No questions asked. (He knew it was BRICKBURN sending the text.)

Then I asked; "Would you like to try Ice Fishing?"
My phone just about broke with the speed of the reply. Literally, my finger had not come off the screen.
"Surely"

I'll took that as excitement.
A few calls were made and then a few details addressed. We got him a license and packed supplies and set off to see the countryside and some wildlife along the route.
White tailed Deer, Elk, Mule Deer, Coyotes and an up close and personal encounter with the fellows you can see further in the post.

The genuine excitement at seeing the new game species and trying new things is exactly how I feel when I go to Africa. It's all new and beautiful.

Pieter, remarked "You guys probably don't notice how beautiful it is here. It's overwhelming!"
(We do know how beautiful it here and I am thankful every time I get to be out in that beauty)

This is what occurs when a South African is let out in the snow for the first time in his life.
He wore his sunglasses so there was no Snow Blindness. I never thought of Snow Madness!

A South African's First Snow Angel! ( Game to try anything)

He went out sledding. No dogs involved.

Then we made him find the water to fish in.

Then "I've never seen a fishing rod that small"
IMG_6823_2.jpg

Then a nice Ice Cooked Venison Steak Sandwich for lunch.

A little more Hard water Fishing after lunch.

The Sled team.

Then a Dangerous Game encounter.
(Not the Big Horn Sheep, the drivers)

One more Mountain pass and another up close and personal Snow encounter.

I know what it's like for a PH taking a newbie out into a new country now. It's awesome to share the genuine excitement and appreciation.

I hope the rest of your trip in North America is a good one Pieter.

So where's the picture of big trout?

Yea +1.... Don't tell us you took him out ice fishing and only caught a cold!?

BTW, that is the biggest kid I ever saw make a snow angel!

Well nothing can surprise me after he was looking for a phone booth to do his pink superman trick in;)

Brickburn great job and thanks for doing that for pieter. He is one of the good guys and why I fight and push so hard for him to do well. He is a great ph and never makes you feel like he thinks he is better then you.He just loves having fun in the outdoors and sharing time outdoors. Did you get to show him and big bull elk. He wants to hunt a speed goat so i hope to get him in to try and draw a tag in mew mexico.

Welcome snow angel, you'll love this site, you look surprisingly like my PH on an up coming hunt! LOL

That is just flat footed awesome!!!!

It really is all about perspective, isn't it???

Too warm to get a cold. We were hunting for Bull Trout of the larger variety. So, tough fish to get.
A little less snow cover we might have been able to pull of the stalks better. The only time less cover helps with the stalk.

How very kind of you Brickburn. What a fine way to show a hunter the great white north! You are to be commended for your hospitality sir. Pieter seems to be a nice guy who now doubt introduces a lot of oeople to Africa and now you have done the same for him in Canada!

Charlie, on my first trip to Africa I was at OR Tambo exhausted after a very short nights sleep and some total strangers invited me to have breakfast with them. They were a group of musicians on the same flight headed to Windhoek. They for a Music Festival.
They helped me get to the gate and they enjoyed some good natured teasing, by having the Customs officer screw with me. We all had a good laugh on the way to the gate when I did not react to the special treatment.

AH is a community in my mind. Nothing wrong with being hospitable and I try and Pay it Forward.

I like the pay it forward concept! Your demonstration is a text book way to build bridges between cultures.
You know your right about this being a community.......it's a great one in fact. I'm glad to be here. Thanks

Good for you Brickburn. Looks like a great time. If you ever get down my hollar and we'll go ice fishing. In anybody is welcome. Just a day or two's notice and we'll have some fun. Looks like I'm going steelhead fishing to Idaho next month. Now that is fun! Bruce

Way to go Wayne good job, now get him a Walleye they can find trout in Africa but I've never heard of them getting walleye there.

Would have been better picture if you broke out that pink tee but thinking about it you still have time to do this. Get that pink tee out so you can start the pink trend in canada to.
