AfricaHunting.com Under Attack

I am truley sorry that this has happend. This is a wonderful site. As far as an anti forum. I could care less what these "people" think of us. ( I use the term "people" loosly) At least in my opinion I would never look at it. If I want to be boiling mad I'll just stub my toe or something :)

I may just be restating what everyone else is thinking, but how do these people have all of this free time. Like any true American, I work hard so that I have the ability to play hard and hunt. There is no way that these people are being economically productive members of society. Sort of reminds me of the 99%er movement. They complained about not having as much money as other people but instead of working for it, they just protested all day and expected us working members of society to just give them money. Anyway, that's my rant for today.

Its interesting that you bring up the occupy movement because those are the same types as these anti hunters. They have all this free time because they have rich or extremely rich parents. Somebody working minimum wg doesn't have the time to occupy x street. They are "activists" and they like all of these things they claim to protect from afar. The occupy movement claims to support poor people yet I guarantee that most of these "activists" come from rich families/homes and have no poor people as friends for example their whole social circle is rich people. If they want to help these people so much perhaps they shouldn't drive around in their 6 figure sports cars and donate some of this money.... Much like their hero Marx-he loved the working class from afar but couldn't stand to be around them.

Now when it comes to hunting most of these types live in the big cities and have never actually been in the bush. They love these cute cuddly bears, elephants, rhinos, wolves etc... ,which they imagine to look like the characters in kiddie cartoon shows, from afar. In reality if they saw one of these animals in their natural habitat and what they are capable of they would s#%t themselves. They don't have the slightest clue about nature, animal behaviour, carrying capacity etc... Yet they claim to be "conservationists". I mean if somebody who had actually spent a lot of time around wild animals and in the bush and was against hunting sure id be open to talking, debating etc... with them and I doubt they're the ones leaving these short dumb inflammatory comments. But these idiots aren't worth wasting your time on...

Today appears to be the worst SPAM day in a long time. At least as far as the ones that made it through....

Hope it was just a bad day and not signs of a trend! Let us know what we can do to help....

I always try and report the spam, but don't know if that is just a hindrance or not.

Yes it seems there has been some more spam lately.
I wish a few more guys would step up and help support this site.I think we all get alot from here.Even though it is free to join I think it is worth becoming a paid memeber just help keep the site going strong.

Needs to be more gold, silver or bronze colors over on the memeber login area.

They are always at it. It is a tag team approach to keep AH clean.
SPAM filters do a fair job but there is always work to be done.

Royal, on reporting spam.
It is a time zone thing. You may see it before I (or J) do, just because we may not have reached the computer yet.
If you see a SPAM post that has been hanging around for a while please report it.
I myself try to be pretty quick on ridding the site of the detritus.

I am glad that people see the value in AH.

Y'all do a great job!!!! :)

I'll quit reporting all of the stuff that has just shown up, if my OCD nature can resist it!!!

Great value in AH on so many levels - information, entertainment, and especially friendships!

As part of my job I used to help run a somewhat popular website. We were constant targets for spam and nut jobs. It's a never ending battle. Considering what they are up against I think the moderators here do an outstanding job of keeping this such a high quality site.

Every time this site doesn't load properly, I think it was an anti attack.

that's exactly what goes through my mind , when I cant get my AH fix , too

this forum is my home online, I probably check in about 5 times a day. if there is anything I can do to protect it please let me know!

I have been wanting to do a post since AH crashed a few days ago to let you all know what happened. My first priority was to get AH back up and running with everything intact as soon as possible. It took me, along with six others, literally working day and night from three different continents to bring AH back to life after being viciously hacked. I have strong reason to believe that we were hacked by an organization paid by an anti hunting group to take us down. I will tell you that for the better part of a day I thought that all of the contents of the forum as well as the integrity of the site had been lost and that was a very sick feeling!!!

I have mentioned in the past that AH has a strong security and back up system and that I have now upgraded the site to the highest level available by adding a fully managed robust Terabyte backup solution that provides continuous data protection and off-site disaster recovery for Dedicated Servers. AH will also as of next week be increasing its' primary hard drive to a Terabyte including a faster SSD drive, which will mean better loading speeds for you since the site has been growing so quickly. This has all been very costly so tell your friends in the hunting industry that we need sponsors to help support the site!

Aside from this hacking job, anti hunters have been assaulting us on every level from endless "fake" spam posts (which are just an irritant and a waste of time for me and BRICKBURN) for kitchen supplies and other nonsense to behind the scenes stuff where they engage automated queries to overwhelm and compromise the good operation and speed of the site.

I have not shared with you guys what has been going on as I have always thought that bringing that negative energy to AH would not be good. But after what I/AH has just been through, I thought you guys should know. There are several extreme anti-hunting groups that have put a target on our backs but I for one will not be intimidated. I have received at least 70 hate emails including ones with death threats to myself and my family since November. However this is nothing new to me, I have been getting 3-4 emails like these every month for several years, what is new is the intensity and number.

This increase directly coincides with a few posts that were made on Facebook in the beginning of November by a couple of anti hunting groups, which stole photos from my outfitting website posted them on their pages and made false claims about my outfit. These Facebook groups are not just doing this to me and AH, they are using hunting photos stolen from all over the web to spread false information and to stimulate support and donations.

As soon as I became aware of these posts and photos that were being used without my permission I asked Facebook to remove them, which they did. I thought they had been permanently removed until I received an email from Facebook which quite literally blew my mind saying that they had reinstated the photos and discussion as a matter of "public importance". I am still fighting with them to have these photos removed and have sent them a cease and desist letter, we'll see where that goes.

Anyway, I have been considering starting a thread with the hate mail that I receive and allowing any of you to post your anti hunter experiences or hate mail, etc. Do you think there would be anything positive to gain by doing this or would it just bring negativity? I must admit that some of them are quite entertaining if just for the sheer ignorance displayed by some of the people. Let me know what you think?

Jerome, Thank you for telling us about this. I'm learning that running AH is no job for a sissy. My hat is off to Jerome and associates.

As a new member, I don't know what to say about your question, however two things come to mind.
1. These morons want us to react. It gives them energy. Like encouraging a yapping dog. We should choose our own battles as a Laywer once told me.
2. Could we fight fire with fire?
I live in Canada, where uninformed/ignorant anti-hunting groups can flourish. Here, and to a great extent in South Africa, all the good that the hunting industry/sport does for conservation, goes unnoticed. For example, Most people don't know that the Hunting Industry in South Africa is doing more to stop Rhino Poaching than their government is doing. ( I just deleted a strong adjective from that sentence. I get too excited on this topic and thats what these jerks want.)

Maybe we could try to keep a formum thread going about the constructive substance that hunting generates, from conservation to local jobs, money and food. ( Maybe Ah already does and I have not noticed.) These anti hunting folks don't even seem to recognized that hunters provide local communities with tons and tons of meat. It's more important than even many of us hunters realize. These little local communities in the bushveld have lots of folks that don't get much protein. I thing our wholesome sport does a lot more good than many of us realize. I was catching hell for "killing beautiful animals in African" recently by a Canadian anti hunter. This person loves hambergers and steaks, knew nothing about life in Africa and never lifted a finger to find out or help. Most of us hunters leave more in tips for the local folks in one hunt in the African bushveld than the anti hunter donates in a life time. Grrrrr! I just throw my hands up and tell them that no animal dies of old age in Africa and that wild meat is an important part of the African diet.

Maybe we should beat the drum a bit too with a thread in AH about the good we do inspite of our loathsome selves.
I need a drink ! Brian

The anonymity offered by the Internet has made it possible for people to say horrible things and make vicious attacks and still remain safely hidden. Unfortunately we all have to live with that, knowing there is no way to tell what is truly in another's heart and mind.
Thank you for your tireless work in keeping this Website open and flowing. The friendly exchange of ideas and information is always vital to all of us.
I'll just pass on to you something I've been doing since I retired that others might want to consider. I volunteered and took the training and now am a Certified 4H Shooting Instructor. I teach Firearms Safety, Air Rifle Competitive Shooting, and Small Bore (.22) Competitive Shooting. It has allowed me to pass on my love and care for the shooting sports to the kids I teach. It's one of the most worthwhile things I have done and is a very fulfilling use of my time. I hope a few of you will consider looking into participating in your local 4H Shooting Program.

Sometime We Just Don't Get It.

I will try again:

Times are changing. We hunters will have to be a little more nible with out PR.

Our approach is way outdated.

It's not a big joke and it's not a "fight". It's just about using a little "smarts" in a "smart" world.

Public Relaions is all about educating the public. (Are we good so far?) The public includes children who are the future of the world not just the future of hunting. The young folks are getting a lot of input about hunting from everywhere especially the anti -hunters. What are the young people learning from Hunters?

One Video that gets a lot of hits on the net makes a big difference. We, incuding the jerks who went public with this contriversial buffalo/truck video, should take more responsibility for what we put out there for the public to see.

The public also looks at this web site wheither we like it or not.

It's simple: the world judges us by what we do and say. Simple.

While the anti-hunters run PR circles around us and iconic corporations like Land Rover put as much daylight between their brand and ours as they can , what do we do?

I'll tell you what the general public sees/hears us doing. They hear us saying things "Dem guys are stooped". or "I aint' gonna hunt in an Land Rover no mo'. "Shit, dem farmers posted that land". etc.

We shouldn't be so surprised when we get attacked by the public. Often we just ask for it. We make it so easy for them.

The pubics perception of us is the reality that we are dealing with here. ( Basic PR stuff.)

We have to wake up. We can't sit back on our old image and expect our wonderful sport to flourish in the 21st. century.
And don't forget that in many countries, especially Africa and Canada (gulp!), if the hunting sport/industry suffers so does conservation.

It's up to us. Lets start with the little thing. Just behaving well and speaking well would go a long ways.

And lets not be short sighted. Our stocks are pretty low now, in the bigger scheme of things and they could get worse.

Visualiz, please, a North American society where hunting, and conservation are on the school curriculum; Where Hunters and the Hunting Tourist Industry could and should be the central force in consrvation.

We could be the Good Guys in all this if we just played our cards right.

We got a long ways to go with this so we have to get our heads out of the sand or any other place it might be. Brain

PS. If I have offended any of you sensitive pin cussions out there. Good! That cracks me up. Brian

PPS. Now the next thing we gotta work on is the Spell Check app. on this site! grrrrrr. B.

Is it just me? Or did the site go down for everyone last night and it's running somewhat slow this morning?
