Naja nigricincta is a species of spitting cobra in the genus Naja; it is native to parts of southern Africa. This species had long been considered to be a subspecies of the black-necked spitting cobra (Naja nigricollis), but morphological and genetic differences have led to its recognition as a separate species.

Two subspecies are currently recognized under Naja nigricincta. The nominate subspecies N. n. nigricincta, commonly known as the zebra spitting cobra or western barred spitting cobra (shown below), is given its name because of the dark crossbars that run the length of the snake's body. The subspecies N. n. woodi, commonly known as the black spitting cobra, is solid black and is found only in the desert areas of southern Africa. Both subspecies are smaller than N. nigricollis; with average adult lengths of less than 1.5 metres (4.9 ft).

Actually, there is a variety of very small snake that is quite rare and has been identified down in South/East Alaska (Probably no coincidence that S/E is where Juneau, our state capital is located as well).

It is so rare that most people living down the "The Banana Belt" as we call that part of AK, not only live and die without ever seeing one but most people there doubt it existence.

I do not recall for sure but, I think it is a type of obscure water snake and only about the size of a pencil ? (and definitely not venomous).

Two legged snakes are of course everywhere on earth where there are tax payers to keep them alive so, I did not include them - I figured their omnipresence is inferred with all of humanity.

Om my safari, right when we were getting out of the jeep for the last time before heading home, we saw a black mamba eating a chameleon. It was pretty cool but my mom was pretty scared.

When I was in high school we would drive the country roads in the fall evenings looking for rattle snakes out soaking up the heat on the roadway. When we killed a big one we would skin it and dry it flat on a board. Some of them were pretty cool looking IMO. An 8ft black Mamba skin would be a pretty neat trophy and definatly a conversation starter. Would there be any import/export issues with a mamba skin or or other regulatory issues?

About 10 or 12 years ago friend of mine who is a US Customs Agent, told me that reptile parts from Africa may as well be totally banned, as far as traveling tourists/hunters are concerned.
Essentially, unless you are representing a licensed museum or research facility, etc., that you will not be granted the necessary permit.

I see you are seriously wanting a leopard... well, I am ALMOST blew my leopard chances in Tanzania years ago as while sitting in the hide ( still daylight) we were invaded by THREE cobras... came straight into the hide and rustled amongst our feet.
We were out in a flash and then the PH and tracker realised that I was already out... LONG BEFORE THEM!! Anyway, the snakes came out, split up.. seemed like a pair mating and another male trying his luck as well. I made the PH shoot the single male with the 12g shotgun... then we found the other 2 x snakes down a small diameter hole, both heads about 6 "down below the ground level... MADE the PH shoot them with the shotgun as well.. he was worried about chasing the leopard away.. TOUGH SHIT, said I... I am not sitting here another second with 3 x snakes roaming about. Leopard can wait... amazingly enough, we got the leopard that very same evening, just as it got dark!!
Snakes and I do NOT bode well together!!!
