I'm new to this forum and never owned a double rifle. I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with a Griffin & Howe double as I am thinking of having the build me one.

Thank you for your time.

Seems like I read somewhere that Marcel Thys of Belgium was / maybe still is, building doubles for G&H.

If that is so, I would guess prices begin at least around 30 thousand US dollars for a rather plain one but, the Marcel Thys double rifle I examined (Best Grade .470 with ejectors, and spare .375 H&H ejector barrels) appeared to almost rival my favorite maker's best grade doubles (Westley Richards) in fit and finish - ALMOST.

I cannot recall what the owner wanted to sell that very special two barrel set rifle for but, I think it was 40 something thousand dollars and that was about 12 years ago, of course it was not new at that stage either.

He had hunted in Tanzania with it but had then decided he wanted to sell it afterward.

They start at $7000 and go up from there. But is it safe to assume it would be a good quality double.

Griffin & Howe double rifle for $7000. ??

On who's web site?, I gotta see this.

Regarding the quality of any double rifle with "Griffin & Howe's" name on it; ... let's just say that Cabela's and Wall Mart are no threat to G&H's long standing business.

This is of course unless they've suddenly changed their product lines drastically and now they're selling Sabatti doubles or some junk like that (I seriously doubt it).

Hell, some of the G&H Mausers I've seen cost more than $7,000. and that's USED.

not sure you will get a Griffin & Howe built for $7k, maybe they meant $70k :Wideyed::Wideyed:

just had a look on their website, a used Griffin & Howe Mauser .270 is selling at $10k!

$7k gets you the Classic French Walnut Stock made on your action, but that's about it.

I could have read there site wrong but it was on griffinhowe.com.

can only find one small photo of the double on there and nothing about pricing. i am with Mr VD on this as $7000,00 is at the bottom end for a 2nd hand browning superposed shotgun made in belgium, so any decent doubles made there in belgium i would have thought would be considerably more. ps and welcome to AH :)

Yeah I guess I read that wrong sorry it was the stock I thought it was just the style. Guess this one isn't for me at that price just for the stock.

no worry other makers out there that build nice doubles at various pricing levels, and plenty info on here if you search around.

Thanks I think I might get a used B.Searcy then but I don't know.

No worries mate, and have a peep at double rifles made by Chapuis as well as by Verney Carron in the web site www.gunsinernational.com
I am always sniffing around at double rifles even when I'm broke.

think you misspelt the link there :D

You are right.

Looks like I did not hit the letter "t" hard enough, probably because I'm such a wimp.

It should have read:
www.gunsinternational.com

(and my parents were school teachers, they would be so ashamed right now).

Hi EGS

I read your thread with interest. Would you mind sending me that PDF? May I put it on my website?
