After a long wait, my fathers and my taxidermy is finally completed, created and ready for shipment. I have received the following dimensions and weight from SBS Logistics with a $2400 quote to Atlanta with insurance to my front door, and was wondering if it is the ballpark?

"One wooden crate / 164 kg / Dimensions: Length 173 cm x Width 113 cm x Height 139 cm / Volumetric Weight: 453 kg."

I assume it was with Delta, but have asked the question. I also asked for a quote via ocean freight to both Atlanta and Charleston SC.

The create contains the follow:
Kudu Wall Pedestal with backskin

2 Blue Wildebeest Wall Pedestal mounts with 1 backskin
Dual Impala Pedestal mount
2351 Impala Ped Mount x2.jpg

Impala Shoulder mount with backskin
Bushpig shoulder mount
Warthog shoulder mount
Blesbok European mounts with flatskin
Blesbok European desk mount

I have other pictures that I will also upload.

I would appreciate your thoughts......

Grady,
Sounds reasonable to me! Hell, I just shipped a box of hunting cloths and my pack with two pairs of boots from Houston to Southwest Montana FedEx and it cost almost $500!

Sounds reasonable

Grady, our last shipment we used Logwin Logistics, had a lifesize lioness and lifesize impala with a few other odds and ends in 1 crate and the other crate had 2 shoulder mount kudu, black and blue WB, Gems and some smaller items. We shipped to Coppersmith in Atl with them delivering the crates to my house. Cost was $2700 all in.

Very good price.

that's exactly what I was thinking , ours back to Australia by air , 6200 usd , mate that hurts just typing it .....:(:(
with out insurance and entry costs ,
just from Africa to Melbourne .

Ouch! Thats a expensive ride Bluey...

Actually it seems to be a good price fir air freight. My shipment last year was $2300 ocean freight for similar crate through Chicago then on to Kansas. Make sure they add in the cost of the clearing house/ import agent.

Thanks for all the information. I am waiting for my reply right now and based on what I am hearing, I do think this is a fair price for the shipment. I also asked for an ocean freight quote.

I am debating on clearing the shipment myself or using a clearing house. The entry point will be Atlanta with the final location in Columbia South Carolina.

Not to change the subject, has anyone compared the price of personally clearing a shipment vs using a clearing house (similar to Coppersmith and others)?

The only time I don't use coppersmith is clearing Mexico Border. And even then I would think about using them if I were to cross anywhere other than Sonora/USA border crossing just because I have crossed there many times and it is routine. I am trying to set up a Carmen Mountain WT hunt and will probably get assistance coming through Peidras Negras.

What was your volumetric weight?
Apples to Apples comparisons.

This is another one of those areas of the budget that always makes me wonder.

Especially when I see stories like these:

Price Fixing in Air Cargo rates with a long history (2003 through 2013) of class action law suits and fines being levied by many countries.
This has involved pretty well every bloody airline company your shipments can be moved on.
That's the sad news.

Same here. Concerns me a bit too because I was a bit shocked by the price.

Grady, what was the quote for ocean freight? Just wondering if there was much of a difference.

Ocean is going to be better but will take 60 days port to port!

I have not received the quote yet, but will let you know.

CAustin - I understand the extended wait, but I am sure I can wait the extra time to possibly cut the cost in half.

Love that Blesbok desk skull mount!

I'm just now receiving my dip & pack shipment from my May Eastern Cape hunt for 7 plains game animals, D&P $1520.00, shipping to Fauna & Flora $780.00. Still don't know the clearing house charges or shipping to Michigan, then taxidermy costs of $4000.00. At this point the after the hunt costs are more then the hunt itself, a little more than I had expected, but what the hell I will make more money and I will be back to Africa, because once is not enough!

I would be interested in it if you pass. Please send me the info on the gun shop if you do not buy it. I have the needed ammo and brass.
