I'm going on Safari in July and couple weeks ago I decided to upgrade my bow for the trip. I bought a new Mathews Z7 and have it all decked out and set up finally. Shoots like a dream and I couldn't be happier. What do you think?

Looks good. I cant wait to hear about your hunt when you get back.

Looks like a great setup.

Enjoy the hunt....

Congrats on the new setup. I bought the Z7 about a month ago and love it. Good luck on your adventure and take alot of pictures. I'll be going over in July this year also.

Great Purchase! I bought that bow back in December and it is a joy to shoot. Until then I had no reason to trade in my Switchback. I am taking mine with me to Zimbabwe in October although I will primarily be using my gun. Where are you going and what are you hunting? What Broadhead are you using?

mcdowelr, I will be going to Limpopo in South Africa with Dries Visser Safaris. I have a pretty long list right now; gemsbok, kudu, red hartebeest, blue wildebeest, eland, zebra, impala and blesbok. If I take half of them I would be overjoyed. I will be using Shuttle T-Lock 100 grain broadheads. I've had good luck with them here in the States and they fly well out of my set-up.

Thunder head, Gerhard, Drenalin33, thanks for the comments, I really couldn't be happier with it right now.

nd,
I hope you get a great trophy of each! Looks like you have a great setup so anything walking near you will be in trouble. Post some pics when you get back would love to see them. Good Luck!

Wow, I only recently joined this forum, probably too late to discuss issues regarding your Africa Safari before you leave (today is already 20/07/2010). However we do have a couple of things in common, firstly I bought a Z7 as well (love it even more that my Drenalin), and secondly I live in South Africa, frequently hunting with my bow. I'm not entirely sure if you will be hunting Africa or South Africa? Currently I shoot the Easton Axis 340 arrows (28 inches) with 2 inch blazers and 100 fieldpoints (420 gr total weight) at 293 ft/s (80 ft/lb of KE), improving quite significantly on the Drenalin setup of 438gr at 270 ft/s (which by the way successfully killed many bigger African species, such as kudu, wildebeest, and a monster eland cow, not to mention the many warthog it zipped through). If you're already in Africa I hope you have an amazing time enjoying your hunt with straight flying arrows and lots of trophy's.
Regards
Porcus

I haven't left yet. I changed my hunt around and I am going after Cape Buffalo (with a .416 Rigby) but the Z7 is going to make the trip so I hope I have the opportunity to take some plains game afterwards. It may sound crazy, but I have been practicing shooting at 50 and 60 yards and have been nailing it. Now when I move up to 30 and 40 yards it seems like a chip shot. I have a Army Ranger buddy who told me it is like practicing long shots with a rifle. You have to have perfect form or else. Seems to be working.
I fly out October 9th. I hope it won't be too hot there. lol Using Carbon express Aramid 350's with WASP Hammers. (I Love WASP Broadheads!) I fletch my own arrows so I have experimited with different fletchings and helicals. 5" feathers w/RH Helical twist groups the best.
I have my whole family going over and I have my 7 year old practicing with a crossbow. I am hopeful he will have a chance to take a warthog. Wish Us Luck!

Hi. I just finished a hunt two weeks ago with some bow hunters. One of the guys brought over the new z7.... what a bow. It performed very well!! I am sure you will have no problems with it while you are in Africa.
I wish you and your family the best time inthe country!! You could expect it to be a little hot, but then again thats good for bow hunting!!!

Best regards
Chris Vollgraaff

Good luck with the hunt. I know nothing about bows but it seems to me that bowhunting has progressed a bit from longbow days!!:D

Mathews Z7 =
