Credit to you where credit is due, amigo.

thanks Velo Dog, I personally find it interesting how much shorter the .416" 300gr bullet is then the .375" 300gr bullet. the picture give you a good idea how much of a gap there is between the 375 and the 416. however, they all look tiny when compared to the 600gr North fork!

my choice bullet for buffalo next year (assuming I use the 505) will likely be either the 525gr TSX or the 600gr CPS but the 570gr A-frame isn't out of the question (depends on what shoots the best). if I end up using the 416 then I will likely use a 350gr TSX or possibly a 400gr A-frame. I will probably use the 416 on a PG hunt im planning, for that ill use the 300gr TSX. the 300gr .416" TSX at around 2750fps should make a very effective PG load.

I love hand loading!

I have a love/hate relationship to hand loading.
I love to develop new loads and to find the perfect load for the bullet and cartridge, but I totally hate to mass produce ammo.

im not set up to mass produce, I use a single stage press and usually make cartridges in 20 round batches.

hand loading is a must if you shoot big bore cartridges. the price of factory ammunition for these heavy hitters is beyond unreasonable! factory ammunition for my 505 Gibbs runs around $18-$20 per shot. but as a hand loader I can produce it for around $5 per shot with new components and even less by reusing brass. medium bores like 375 H&H and 416 RM can be hand loaded for pennies on the dollar. I was able to shoot my 375 H&H for around $0.50 a shot and I will be able to load my 416 RM for about $0.75 a shot.

I use a single stage press as well.
I usually have made cartridges in 50 round batches, but now I have decided to make much larger batches, so I don't need to do it so often.

I don't claim to be an addict but I have owned or still own the following: 375 H&H, 2 - 416 Rigbys, 2 - 45/70's, 450/400 3", and a 500 Jeff. I have plans to add a 458 Lott, 404 Jeff, and 505 Gibbs to this assortment.

Sounds like you are in denial about your "problem".

Don't worry, your are among friends.

I am not a addict, I do not have a addiction, I will be fine if I can just fire one more shot from anything that launches a 300gr plus bullet, preferably a 500gr bullet!!!
Several 375 H&H's a 458 Win Mag, 458 Lott and now a 470NE.

Very nice rifles, thanks for sharing. Yes, the first time I shot a double rifle, it was all over for me. There is something about slinging that much lead out of a rifle that is so elegant and that handles so well.

one of these days im gonna have to get me a 458 Lott and if I ever have the money to burn a 500 NE 3" as well.

I guess I am an addict.. 3x 375 h&h, one 458 wm and a .45 Blaser that has been bought and sold.
Waiting for my Krieghoff in .470NE to arrive from Germany now (y)
Anything that shoots a 300gr+ bullet catches my interest real quick!

Will add some photos once it arrives!

When I was a young boy I avoided loud sounds, especially banging and refrained from shooting anything bigger than a .22. My son at 10 years old is just the same, but........

I moved on in life and my addiction started from using a mate's 9.3 x62 which led to shooting trees with a 458 WM on the same day.

My first purchase was a 416 Remington in the Model 700 with a fat bull barrel and sights that couldn't miss. I loved that thing and shot it like a .22 but soon realised I wanted something bigger!
I had by then tried a 450 Watts and 450 Ackley which despite the nose bumps had me properly convinced. After shooting down a tree with a friend's 500 NE double, I knew the old Remington had to go!

I sold the 416 when the bullets ran out and bought a 1928 custom 9.3x62 for the nostalgia whilst I waited.......

I am now hopefully committed to the purchase of 450 NE 3.25" in a double over under. This has been my ultimate caliber since my dad gave me a spent case when I was young lad.

My concern is what next...... In traditional SxS double ?

Perhaps a .577 NE side by side ?

Fr8liner, being as your hobby is shooting down trees you will need something much bigger then a 450 NE 3.25"! I would say at least a 500 is in order for such tasks. if your looking for a double then either the 500 NE 3" or the 577 NE 3" would be perfect for the task. the 500 NE 3" can be had in a double for a reasonable price while the 577 NE 3" might be a tad more expensive. i see new Merkel doubles in 500 NE 3" available all the time.
