I absolutely love my ruger number 1 in 9.3x74r! The more I shoot it the more I like it. It's shooting better and better every time I take it out. I was having some issues with shooting standard rifle targets and getting consistent groups. I put a leupold vx-r 2-7 on it and on 7x the crosshairs were covering up the bullseye so it was a little hard for my eyes to get really good accuracy out of it, I was able to keep it at 1.5ish moa. Today I went to the range and bought some big 17 inch shoot-n-see targets intended for long range shooting and placed them at 100 yards and that did the trick! I was able to shrink my groups to 3/4 to 1 moa! The 9.3x74r is quickly becoming my go to cartridge for medium to large (non dangerous) game. It's very mild on the shoulder even in the light number one platform but had plenty of power for all of my hunting needs. I sighted it in with Norma's 232 grain oryx load and I think I'm going to take it whitetail deer hunting as well as for black bear this season here in Pennsylvania. I'm keeping my federal loaded 286gr Barnes tsx's for the heavier stuff. I wrote up a range report about this rifle previously and I don't want to keep beating a dead horse but I just wanted to show Ruger and the 9.3x74r cartridge some love!

Well done Voodoo ! what a great gun in a great chambering.

I can see you getting a lot of satisfying hunting/shooting from this combo.

I've been contemplating a quality single shooter for a loooooong time now, the 9.3x74 high on the list of considered chamberings.
The fact that I have a bolt gun in the 64mm chambering kind of negates the "need" for the 74mm.

I would definitely like to hear back regarding the performance of the 232gn Oryx loads on black bear.

Well done, keep us up-dated.

Paul.

Thanks Paul! I'm really looking forward to hunting with it. I didn't need the rifle in that caliber but somehow it still managed to follow me home haha! In my neck of the woods in PA, black bear are fairly scarce but I'm still going to have a go at it and see. I will definitely keep you posted!
