I blame all of you...

I borrowed a scope to work the final load recipe up and determined that 71.5 gr of H4895 did the trick in this rifle.

I'll borrow a Chronograph one of these days.

But, opening day was arriving so I needed to be ready.

The results on opening day.

I had to start small to gain confidence under hunting conditions.
Perfect neck shot at 90 yards.
I did not recover the bullet! :)

It was time to move up the ladder.

I found my next level up the ladder and took a shot at 150 yards. After seeing the penetration on the Ruffed Grouse I made absolutely certain there was nothing behind this intended target. I did not want a group.

I always wondered what people were on about requiring a large exit hole for better tracking. Now I know.

I found the site of impact and started to track. The sign stopped within ten feet.
I was very Confused.
I went back to the point of impact and determined that the sign I had followed had been from the bullets exit path.

I turned around and looked in 140 degree opposite direction and saw this.

It continued for the entire trail. Which was, as you might guess, a fairly short 45 yards.

The exit hole.

After several more hours of Walk and Stalk in the crunchy woods the rifle was finally confident enough to see if it could manage bigger quarry.

The entire vital area was covered by a tree. (as per background)
A neck shot at eighty yards was required.

It is a gun built for Africa and is now ready to go. It feels confident enough now.

No Bullet recovery. Shocking, I know!

Friend said "It does not kick as much as my .300WM" (shooting 150 grain bullets.

I've always thought this personally. I guess it is the "sharpness" of the recoil.

how magnification shows how much you really move.

I always leave a scope on min magnification for this reason, as well as for quick acquisition. I have found that for me the higher the scope magnification the more likely I am to snatched the trigger.

And it is a good thing you dropped that grouse on the first shot! Once wounded....

Nice deer, congrats, I have not seen anything like that alive in 7+ years.

A nice "brace" of deer! That should fill the freezer quickly!

I heard from very reliable sources that Plains game in Africa are surrendering in Mass with the thought of your upcoming visit

If you had only shot a fish you could have had a 375 McNab!:D

Congrats on the deer, that is a very nice buck. I am very envious as my CZ will have to wait awhile as we are still in the blackpowder season out in the east. However the partridge shot now has me rethinking my plans:) Once again congrats on giving your CZ 550 an excellent first work out.

Nice work Wayne, makes me miss whitetail hunting. Your grouse took me down memory lane. I was leaving the woods in Idaho one evening after a thoroughly unsuccessful hunt on which I didn't even see a deer. A ruff (aka as stupid chickens in Idaho) hopped up on a log about 10 feet away. He was in the pan an hour later after taking a 7mm to the head.

looks like you are enjoying your new toy :) just wondering if there is anything left in the woods now? :D;) and when does it get to holiday in africa?

Soon enough I hope.
Perhaps 15.

It's bad when your rep starts making the rounds. :)

Should have been thinking I could have pulled it off. There was a river just down the way.
Last time I went for a McNab in Africa I ended up short on the birds and not the fish.

Thanks
It was certainly fun.
Have fun with the new plans.

that chicken brings back tastie memories of Canada.
have a good morning , bustin them up . you don't hang em very long.
I spose they set quickly in the cold?

…..
I spose they set quickly in the cold?
Normally, I'd hang them for a couple of weeks. But, temps will be too high to keep them cold enough.
Wish it were otherwise, but…. meat in the freezer.

Snow storms come and go. Some winters we range from plus 15C to minus 45C.
I do not live in an Igloo. Honest.
Today it will melt off here.
Already 2C headed for 6C today and 12C tomorrow.
Too warm to hang meat for very long.
