BOTSWANA: Two Weeks Hunting In The Kalahari With Kanana Safaris

Way to Go Wayne it'll take 2 or 3 years to replenish the animals in that area after you guys left. Congrats on some good shooting.

Let me tell you Brickburn.....I having so much fun reading this thread that you cant imagine.........I sayd this once here......who needs a book, even being a book reader my self........the writing, the pictures, the trophies, the posibilities to keep adding pics and text to the thread are infinit......so again.......who needs a book in this days.....just in travel case I guess........!!!!

I cant say nothing about this wonderfull trip you had in the Botswana land, but I have a couple questions maybe.........I am checking all the operations here for 2016.......I am allready done with my hunting in SA last may.....so planning for 2016.....Are there any chance for Nyala, Eland and bushpig there or close to there at least, because they are in my bucket list for 2016 and another more trophies that they allready have.....will be my second PG in Africa.......How long is Kanana from Maun Airport.......

Thank you in advance my friend..........

One more thing......I hope that group of men in the picture dont try to take Argentina by the force...........because maybe you can do it.....hahahahaha...........:ROFLMAO:

Eland are here in Large numbers. No Nyala or Bushpig. Wrong kind of country really. They are wet country species.
Maun is about a 4 hour drive on the highway.

I promise not to invade Argentina, except maybe for a Red Deer.

Thanks.
I can tell you that the group definitely put a severe dent in the numbers.
There were plenty of animals left.

nice shooting on the bwb bricko
both them gemsbok are really nice to mate , something special about an animal that can scrathch its own ass just by looking up and twisting its head .
must be just like your place , having to push start a light bulb , because of the cold .
great writeup ,pictures and trophies thankyou once again ...........

Thanks.

It's good to have a range finder and a buddy who knows how to use it properly.

It was amazing to see just how big those Gemsbok were after they were on the ground. Ass scratchers is a good descriptor.

I have central heating at home to help start the light bulbs! :)

Good....I have it clear now and we gonna be waiting for you down here for Red Stag whenever you want......!!!!!!

Thank you very much and allways sorry for the broken english...!!!!!

Not sure how to take that!

I'll abbreviate for you.
Went to Botswana, went hunting and shot a bunch of stuff. o_O:ROFLMAO:

Great writing sir! Fine trophies, thank you for all the effort that it took to share your trip!
We had a driver in Sonora last year just like yours, makes for a long day!

That one oryx is an incredible trophy(y)(y)(y)!

It seems like this just keeps getting better and better. What a fantastic trip you had. Thanks so much for taking the time to share. Good shooting. Your "cull" gemsbuck look better than many trophies that are taken elsewhere. Bruce

When I took my first shot at the "pop bottle bull" I thought he might be 28 inches. Nothing like perspective.
Incredible trophies.

This was a 40 inch pick up found after I left!

Have you ever seen rainy season (early 2014) in the "desert."

Day 15

I got up and discovered it was not as cold as yesterday.

Visiting X!hosa at home that morning.

The kitchen at start up in the morning.

Everyone decided it was time to be out for the last hunting day and there was only one truck to use between everyone.
We ALL loaded up and headed out. I wish I had a picture of this. It was a true African experience to have people hanging off of every available spot on a Bakkie. Sixteen people started the trip on this truck this morning!

We dropped three guys and Morlund at a blind, dropped three staff at the Headquarters and on we went north.

There are two hunters and three observers, two trackers and a PH left in the vehicle now.
This should be interesting.

We found the track from last night and determined that I had managed a clean miss. Great work by the guys.
At this point I’m quite thankful.

We move on to find some Gemsbok and proceed to miss.
The Wildebeest go on to leave the country.
We drove around and toured the cattle farm and found the Gemsbok were wild and we cannot get our act it together with this many people on board.

Finally we had all had enough. I am not sure our hearts were really in it at this point. JP headed us back toward camp.
Not a glorious end to our visit but we hunted until the end.

When we arrived at the lodge I headed to my tent and started packing up, took a shower and got ready for dinner.

I made arrangements to pay the balance when I arrived home. It is a pleasure having such a good relationship with an Outfitter.

I would decide on trophies I really want to take home later and let Jason know. I do not feel any pressure to get this done today. Another pleasure.

Everyone is tired out and enjoying the last evening in the Boma before we head out in the morning. Eventually they all head to bed and I am alone in the lodge.

I stay up well after dark to take in the splendour of the night sky.

You think you see stars at home? It is nothing in comparison to here.

Then I decided to step it up a notch and take the big white gun out for some long exposures.

THEN THERE WERE STARS. WOW!
There are more stars in those photos than you will ever see with the naked eye.
This is a brand new wonder for me to witness.

I also took a long exposure of one of my favourite subjects while at Kanana, the Leadwood.
It is pitch black out and you can not see your hand in front of your face at this point.

It was taken solely with Moonlight. My shadow is in the foreground.

You can’t beat that. It looks like a sunrise photo.

That was enough for me and it’s off to bed.

WOW!!! Someone finally caught those stars at night in Africa. I never had my camera when I finally had the time to look up. I cannot even remember when I could see the Milky Way here in the states. Awesome, Wayne. And just a footnote....cough.....but your math is off. Two people are missing from the equation up above. LOL! :(

Count those stars, its tougher.

Here's my math:
Three hunters, one tracker
Three staff
Two hunters, three observers, two trackers, a PH and a Driver

Outstanding Wayne and only one screw up the whole trip on your part, no pic with all those folks on the Bakkie! LOL I can picture in my mind a part of the
Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus. :ROFLMAO:

No. You said, "We dropped three guys and Morlund at a blind, dropped three staff at the Headquarters and on we went north.

There are two hunters and three observers, two trackers and a PH left in the vehicle now.
This should be interesting." Now my math is off....that is one person missing. I missed your count of Morlund. Geeeeez! This is why you need more women on this site! Hahahaha! :)
