Big Bore Addiction Group

Here is another new addicted! I have just purchased an old Sako 75 in 375 H&H. I am going to use it for the first time next saturday in a driven hunt in Spain, with red deers and boars. I will tell you. It has a Hakko 1-4x20 scope and Optilock mounts. I will try to take some photos.

I have hunted two animals with that caliber, a cape eland and a lioness, last june, and I felt in love with the 375. It was a CZ in 375 from the owner of the company, Adam Barnard of Spitskop safaris. Very manageable recoil.

A 50 has no practical hunting use, but is very useful for having a good time. It is also useful for home defense under a very limited and unlikely set of circumstances. In the event that someone decides to attack my house with a Cat D9, I'm covered.

I used the same home defense argument to justify my Lott. Told the wife that we were now covered in the event of an elephant charge in Atlanta Georgia!

Bert;
What the heck? May as well post pictures of the 50 BMG also!

Or better yet, start a new thread for us USA guys to post our tributes to Obama's election, and re-election (Hey America! What is that saying about fool me once, fool me twice?)

Bob I'm loving the idea of a Obama tribute thread. Could be a lot of sweet pictures!

OK Bob, start the thread!

I bought an ak47 (variant) as my reelection present.

Yea as long as I'm alive screaming like a little girl wouldn't be so bad.

Iv'e always thought I had more than average will power,and was always able to kick my bad habits Cold Turkey, so when my 375HH got little use in SA this year I decided to put it up for sale. I found I had a bigger addiction to SA and started to plan my next Trip and since I want to hunt Plains Game.I had no use for the 375 I got a nice price for the and the Africa fund got a decent start and I knew the 375 went to a good home,,all is well in the Heartland or so I thought. I was okay for a few days but found my range trip boring nothing I shot gave me the nice Jolt that the 375 gave me, even my nasty shooting Mosin Nagant with the recoil pad removed and my eyes close couldn't duplicate the 375. So as much as I thought I had conquered my addiction it was no use and the hunt began. I was able to Score a pretty nice 375HH this week and have re-stocked the Brass Bullets and Dies and while it's not a CZ the dael was great and the Africa Fund only took a minor hit,,,as long as this Forum is here to help us poor Bastards maybe it will keep me from using the 375HH as a gateway Caliber

Guys;
You'll have to give me some time to pull my over reactions out of the safes and photo them.

Rob!
You know the answer to your problem! You just have to accept that the 375 H & H is "the" all around African do all caliber.

Accept your fate, take it to the range often, learn to shoot it well... Then take it to Africa with the proper bullets for your planned safari and just use it on everything.

Take a look at what I shot with mine.

All my best to you in your pursuit of proper therapy.

Rob44, if you like the shoulder thump of the 375, dont ever shoot a 416! i was perfectly happy with my 375 till i tried the 416... then suddenly the 375 was too small.

Rob;
Be careful of Matt! What he has is really contagious..... He is trying to drag you down that deep cavern into his realm..... He is baiting you with a 416... Before you know it he'll have you wanting to shoot 600 grainers out of a 500 or 505. Can you say "375 times two"!

Well I actually bid on two CZ550s in 416 Rigby but was outbid by someone who most likely had a much worse addiction to big calibers than me,,and a Noted member of this Forum who lives in Wisconsin convinced me that altho the 416 was the next move ,I could affored to feed my 375 habit without selling my Ass in downtown Minneapolis,,

you could buy a 416 Remington mag and simply convert your 375 H&H brass to 416 RM brass. :p

then when the 416 isnt big enough any more, you can get a 458 Lott and convert your 416 RM brass to 458 Lott brass! :sneaky:

you could even save money by having your 375 H&H rebarreled to 416 RM and then later rebarreled again to 458 Lott. :whistle:

i dont have a (twitch) problem (twitch twitch) i swear! :cautious:

Many of the 416 RM factory loads on cheaper than dirt are pretty reasonable compared to other big bores.

we welcome all who enjoys the stern push to the shoulder generated by large bore rifles. if you consider shooting your .375+ to be a fun pass time then you will get along fine on this thread.

in my opinion, these days the 375 H&H might as well count as a big bore rifle. I cant speak for the rest of the world but most guys here in the states consider medium bores to be from .30 - .35.

I'm definitely +1 with Matt85 here because where I was born and raised (The Soviet Satellite People's Republic of California), medium bore rifles were .264 caliber through .30 caliber.
Large bore in California terms, began at .33 caliber as I recall.
Therefore, even though I defected to The United State of Alaska, a bit over 32 years ago, I still see the .375 as a large bore.
If I had been fortunate enough to have been born and raised somewhere on The African Continent, likely I might feel that large bore begins at .40 caliber.
However, nobody asked me where I wanted to be born and so, California is my story and I'm stuck with it.

So, to those of you who have a .375 or, even a 9.3, welcome to The Big Bore Addiction Group.
(I am a junkie like you and I have no desire to clean up).

I just ordered a 150 rounds of 200gr 375 round nose usually slated for 375 Win Lever Guns I found some load data that that will make my 375HH suitable shooting nice and Flat,,that means I can flood the used gun Market with all my 30 cal and Various MM calibers that I will not have any use for. Who am I kidding I'm not selling anything ever again I'm still a member in good standing with those poor guys in the under 375 club
