BA has section 5 carriers licence which handguns and semiauto centrefire rifles come under in uk i.e. prohibited for most people.......and will carry them i think with special notice, and them not being illegal in the destination country. not sure about the strike thing unless you are talking about the 1970/80s as now you have more chance of the french or spanish air traffic controllers causing problems. your guns should be insured regardless of where you are travelling through, and as i said these days there is strict security for firearms at heathrow and unlike the old days when heathrow was nicknamed thiefrow the security staff and not the baggage handlers transfer/look after the guncases.
foxi they are classified as sporting weapons by BA themselves as their other classification is weapon of war and you aint going to get them on the plane unless you are on an overseas trip sponsored by the govnt
