Looking for ideas for a shoulder mount giraffe. I'm thinking of a short pedestal to get it off the floor, but interested in all ideas. Have you got any pics of really good giraffe mounts? Also, they shipped the giraffe legs to my taxidermist, have you seen any useful/interesting things done with giraffe legs? I'm sure I still have a long wait ahead of me, but I'm very excited to see mounts from my first ever safari.

Congrats on the giraffe!!

I actually made a flat skin from my one - still at the taxidermy.

That looks really awesome. I have made the whole giraffe info a flat skin. Really excited now...

Great mounts and ideas.I am having my done on a pedestal mount from the floor.Going to use the backskin to make some backs of chairs. If you go to wildlife studios website in his africa gallery he has the pose I am going to use for my giraffe.Has a nice bend to the neck like he is eating from a tree.

Wow Bill;
That is one of the better galleries I have seen. Really like the Africa map on the back of the second Kudu pedestal. As well as a lot of the other work.

Bob he is one of the best around. You should see his color brochure he sends out.If you like email your address or contact him direct and you can get info mailed out.
WE go out to his studio to watch them work on stuff and he does all my mounts from the states.

I need to find a guy like that within 100 to 200 miles of me.

he ships all over the world bob let me help you spend some of your money.LOL

Great looking mounts Edward, and Adriaan when you get your flatskin please post a pic - a whole giraffe flat skin has got to be impressive. Thanks for the help, seeing work by Wildlife Studios is helpful for a lot of mount ideas.

Can anyone tell me approximately how much floor space a full giraffe rug would take?

the one my son hunted in 0 10 was done in a flat skin ,bob and is at a gues 22 or 23 feet long from its nose to tail
the head /face is flattened the neack fully splayed out and the body is caped out down to about half way down it legs and is about 10 foot by 9 foot give or take
if no one post a picture by Monday night or Tuesday arvo , that's when I will be on land at the latest ,I will try and get some pictures up for you .
don't hold your breathe waiting , unless you remind me ,cos nearly every plan goes out the window once the boat hits the wharf .
I will try and get my daughter to roll him out and take some photos and email them to me , but being Saturday night , who bloody knows if it will happen .

Agree Adriaan! Please be sure to share a pic of your flat skin when it is done.

When my wife saw the half-skin above, she coo'd like a dove! I smell a giraffe in my future! :)

I think Edward has the right idea as long as your trophy room has high ceilings.

Tim all I smell is a trophy list that keeps growing.LOL I think your up to about trip 5 now or doing alot of shooting on the first 4 trips. What till you see one of the big dark bulls in front of you.Makes you lose all sense of if you want one or not you just go for it.
Was one of the animals I thought I would never want till I seen a few. Then when you see the right one it is on and you cant help yourself.Seeing a few good mounts and those chairs made out of the hide made me do it.

Even thinking of maybe letting the kid take one maybe one day

You noticed that too? :)

If it is big and ugly, or big and beautiful, I seem to want it.

I have a feeling I am going to be working for a while longer......

When you shot your bull, did you take him in the neck?

Neck facing me.I was a little low as piter wanted it more up towards the head.He dropped light a rock but was up and running within 5 seconds but then a frontal shot and that 200 grain aframe went all the way into the lungs. When we got up to him he was pouring out lung blood. He ran about 75 yards from were the shots to place.
