Why The 30-06 Has Been rendered OBSOLETE

Jeez 35bore armed religion! i didnt know you were an islamic fundamentalist.......;):heh:

Not quite what I was getting at, but,,,, I guess people die for their beliefs all the time. As for the Islamic fundamentalist crack, I would gladly assist them in dying for theirs if they came to my house (and attempted) to create any undesirable and unwanted harm to me or my family. Trust me "Ole painless is waiting"....:samurai::devil::letsparty::guns:

Yep, if your religion is worth dyin' for, please start with yourself & your own kind & leave us christians alone. We are peaceful people.

8? But they need to know when it's time to go home.. .

If you get to the bar at 5 pm and drink about 4 beers an hour til 9....all the fat chicks will have gone home...in fact they seem to get thinner (and prettier) as the night gets longer! :draught::gorgeous: Ask Bart he'd know!!!!!

That is really HILARIOUS!!!

I can drink them pretty but not thin!

Truly I belive the 06 is a great round given the right situation. I am also amazed people still get offended at such brazen statements when its obvious that I'm drinking.

My good friend Bart we have all figured out that you just love :stirring:up shit and we love it. LMAO Your just good at it.

There are a number of newer cartridges that better the ballistics and terminal performance of the ancient 30-06! BARTFRNCS
It shoots comfortably, shoots accurately and does the job from duiker all the way to eland and has a reasonable bullet weight range for the different situations that are also available in 99% of gun shops. davidhein
The .308 is more efficient and works better in semiautomatics (150@2900). The 300 Win Mag handles 200 grain bullets better (200@2900). The 30-06 does 165@2900 fps. If a rifle will lobe a 30 caliber or similar bullet at 2900 fps it makes the cut as a modern cartridge, useful for long range hunting with a good point blank range.
My question is this, with modern high performance bullets who needs more than a 308 Winchester in 30 caliber for medium game? If bigger animals need shooting, why not use a bigger bullet? Of course everyone should have/needs a 257 Roberts, 300 Win Mag, 338 Win Mag, 35 Whelen, 9.3x62mm, 375 Ruger, 375 H&H, 416 Taylor and 458 Lott and at least one lever action Winchester preceding the .30-30 (38-55 is one year older) and a muzzle loading rifle (in lines are allowed for progressives, other wise a smooth bore). I admit to having a .30-06 that I bought recently (the last 10 years). I've never consummated the relationship by presenting the new arrival with a set of reloading dies and going full crazy with load development, contenting myself with Hornady Light Magnum 180 grain factory ammo. The 300 Win Mag has yet to make a hunting trip and it too has seem only factory ammo to this point. My wife watches for those little boxes from UPS because she knows the cycle is beginning again.

I have always had very excellent luck with the .30-06, both in shaming a fellow who bragged a bit too much about his .300 Weatherby at the rifle range and in sacking many animals of several species in N. America and Africa as well.
Most of these "new and improved" cartridges only make me yawn these days.

I take my 06 to the range all the time,, but only at night

Have to agree with Velo Dog. One of those guys who had been there and done it. Better pay attention to those "Old Salts." Know there business.

I love my old 30.06
she's a ruger s/s ,synthetic stock , M77,mark ii.
its scratched up on its second scope, proberly fired over a thousand rounds .
its my first choice samba stalking close to home ,or when a weekend hound hunt oppotunty gets taken
she shoots as well now as she did when l first got her years ago .
she loves 220 round nose hornadys, just as much as she does barnes ttsx, tsx, mrx, and bonded solids 150 or 180 , and shoots remmington coreloks just as well straight out of the factory .
and feels like an extension of my left hand
my wife looked at her a while ago and asked as l was dropping the bore snake down her throat after a hunt .why don't you trade that that old gun of yours in and get a new one ,its looking a wee bit trashy .
I finished what I was doing put her in her in the pole position in the safe , and said joysie darling ,why would l get rid of this firearm , ive proberly walked as far holding her hand , as I have holding yours since I got her .
she looked at me like l was stupid ,and laughed in my face ..............

A faithful "ol gal" with character that takes care of business every time! What more could a man ask for?

Check the ballistics on the '06 against the newer 30's and you will get an eye opener. 100 fps faster than the '06 doesn't mean much when you consider recoil, and the fact that you may have a problem finding the new fangled ammo when you need it. My son used one in SA this year. One shot kills on everything, from kudu to impala. 168 gr tsx at 2790 fps. KISS.

I haven't hunted with mine for years , my son uses it mostly now , but even he prefers some of my other rifles , namely : 6.5x55 and my 9.3x62

A modern 3006 with a 24in.. barrel is right on the heels of a 300 win mag. Use winchester cases and you can get real close to 2900 fps with 180 grain bullets with good handloads. Factory ammo is loaded mild because of all the old rifles still around

I used to own an 30-06, wasn't a bad cartridge or a bad rifle. now I own a 6.5x55 and greatly prefer it to the 30-06.

as for the 30-06 being obsolete, I was still using a 1884 trapdoor rifle in 45-70 gov (black powder) for hunting till just recently. I must seriously be behind the times!
