Do I need gaiters for a South African hunt in September?

I too am heading to SA in September. KZN to be exact. It is our first trip also and our PH has recommended sock protectors for the both of us. Does anybody have recommendations on brand or where to buy quality sock protectors/Gaiters that are appropriate for the region and season?

Johnnyblues, when are you arriving in Joberg? My wife and I will be arriving on the 11th
I will be arriving on the 19 of September. Hunting with Induna Safaris

My friend, I am realy not sure where to get gaitors. I did grew up on a farm in South Africa, but I never used gaiters, but it is advicable to use them. Maybe your PH could help you with advice in this regard. Good Hunting.

Take your gaiters with you!
I have just arrived from Northern Cape, and I bought one made of canvas by Rogue, at a hunting shop in Kimberley. I paid over 120 Rands. There are others made of leather, more expensive of course. And Sniper of Africa has some models also.

Turtle skin gators are one of the best, you can find them online they are one of the lightest weight and most comfortable and offer some of the best protection that I have used .

I never use gaiters and will probably never do, the reason is that they sound to much in canvas and the leather ones getting too hot, and I do not like that bulky part around my boots... I try this season the Blaser hunting pants in them safari line, it comes with a inner lining that you put around the foot, its a fantastic par of trousers and nothing will entry your boots, and its a good protection against "tick-fever".

I snap a photo its easier to understand.

Good luck, Gordon

These Blase pants look very nice. Thats why I like the turtle skin they are very lite and breatheable and I can use them with any pants or shorts
