Bore cleaners???

I have tried them all and the Bore Tech is hands down the best I've used. Best of all no danger to the bore and no foul smelling ammonia and it works!

Agreed...Bore Tech is probably the best and safest. Works very well on severe copper fowling and can be left in the bore overnight.

Another product that is excellent and used by many benchrest shooters is SharpShootR PatchOut and WipeOut. It is a two-part cleaner and it works very well.

WipeOut is still the best for me. My 220 Swift and 257 Weatherby groups really closed up after a WipeOut cleaning. Especially good after Barnes have been fired!

Previously in this thread I recommended KG12, and still think it's a good ammonia free product. But I've tried the Bore Tech because of recommendations here on AH and it's my favorite. It removes it all and does so quickly. 30 - 45 minutes to a very clean barrel. If the copper fouling is really bad, it may take longer but I haven't run into that as yet.

Have to agree with Phoenix Phil and Diamondhitch. Butches Boreshine for Carbon fouling and general cleaning and KG-12 for copper build up. After 30 + years of shooting 15 of which have been in competitions I have not found anything yet that works better.

The foaming bore cleaners are a little less labor intensive but are not quicker.

Just my two cents.

I used to use Sweets but switched to KG-12 because it is more effective and faster. I use Hoppes Elite to remove the KG-12 then oil the bore. I have a lot of autoloaders so foaming cleaners are out

I tried the Bore Tech based on this thread and all I can say is WOW!!!!

I've always just used good old Hoppes number 9 and could never get that last little bit of color out and a patch was always just a little dirty. Not anymore... I can't believe how much junk came out... I thought the patch would take forever to clean out, but just a few patches and it was done.

I'm sold.

I like the fact that their rods, jags and brushes all have no brass in them. Lets you know that the only color on the patches comes from your barrel.

It is the best...I've tried them all. I will say (and keep this in mind) as it gets older, and by older I mean a few years, I found it loses its potency and ability to clean. I had an older bottle and it just wasn't getting rid of the copper fouling. I bought a new bottle and the difference was day and night. I wonder if anyone else noticed this.

I use the entire range of Bore-Tec products now! And never have experienced them "going off". The Eliminator has changed colour a bit but I decanted it into a smaller flip top lid clear bottle ( old hand sanitizer bottle) to take to Africa.

I have dared others to "come and get me" when they think their barrel is clean. One patch of Eliminator or Carbon Remover soon has them heading out to buy a bottle.
It has been said on this thread that it's expensive- what? Your rifle that you are possibly taking on a DG hunt isn't?

Best of all it's not a Dangerous Goods substance - so is Airline travel friendly.

I use Hoppes Elite for the carbon and powder followed by KG-12 for copper. I have sweets but KG-12 is way better and doesn't singe your nostrils. The water based Elite is also fantastic for lead fouling

I ordered some Bore Tech Eliminator from Midway after reading some of the posts...I am VERY impressed. A lot faster than Wipeout, and a lot easier. I plan to take the 4 oz. bottle with me this year as my .257 Weatherby with Barnes TSX bullets requires frequent cleaning. Thanks for the info!

Sorry guys! In my coutry there is quite expensive and rare to find any product like you use and name in tis post!....
Here, the gunsmits and shooters have problems to use and buy ever the HOPPES nª9... don´tt even think another bore cleaner or copper solvent!!!
I use two "homemade" compouds, with the same effects, however, than the best prducts I use in "other times"...
The one, is AMONIAC, liquid solution, a 90% ammoniac and a 10% soluble oil (used in steel mechanization works) The product proper use is like this: A patch full of liquid pass troug the barrell, and wait... about 4 or 5 hours later, clean with a brush... If the copper ammount is low, une application do the job! In case of necessity, retry!
The two!: a liquid compound named "decapante para cobre", (sorry, I can´t translate the name... ) this product is sold by an enerprise and chemistry called "casa sima" in Buenos Aires... This solution ONLY ATTACK THE COPPER, BRONZE AND THE FINISH OF THE GUN, so, the user may be too cautious because if a drop of the solution touch the gun... ADIOS, AMIGO...
I love this product, because in my work, the clients never care about your gun´s bores... They almost ignore the copper fouling... and shot thousands of times, until the gun DON´T HIT... and before that, come with me asking for a help...
One application of this "decapante" filling the bore cautiously and dryed after 5 minutes, clean a mine of copper inside the barrel!

Sweets has a very high ammonia content and they say not to leave it in the bore for more than 15 min. With something as strong as 90% ammonia I would use it like sweets.

It¨s OK, buddy!... My fault!...
The fact is, there is not pure ammonia in the market... I use a cleaning product for home cleaning!... its contains ammonia in a water solution!

Butches bore shine works just dandy on the accuracy rifles with smooth bores. KG12 on the tough stuff. Neither one requires any neutralizing both are "bore safe".

All that said........I really miss the smell of Hoppes #9.........

Been using Hoppes Elite Bore Gel
Swab it and let it set about an hour - 3-5 cycles of this.
No bore brush, just patches.
