Hunting reports

During my recent trip to Africa, some rhinos(no hunt animals) were targeted by poachers in SA. I will not get into specifics but the rhinos were protected and the poachers were repelled for over a week. The response to the poachers was immediate and significant. The tracking skill that I observed during this time was exceptional. The commitment that I observed by all of those placing their lives on the line was beyond ordinary.

The poachers then moved on to a neighboring area where they continued their efforts. The rhinos may have not been as fortunate but one poacher was injured and another killed. Considering the link found between terrorist groups and poaching dollars, you can guess what my feelings on that may be. It appears that poachers are commonly former Moz and Zim military and ready to use deadly force.

Has anybody had a similar experience?

with a bit of luck the shit bag that was only injured ,may get finished off while trying to escape ,just a thought .......

Lots of thoughts come to mind. I will keep those reserved. There were six in the group.

It was accident, "right" bluey. He tripped and broke his neck.

i'm sure there is scientific proof somewhere that poachers are "accident prone" ;)
they often fall down cliffs, drown in rivers, have shooting accidents and get eaten by hyena's!

There is a special place for them all.......

Luckily the closest I have come to poachers is finding snares.

While touring Hluhluwe-Umfolozi very early in the morning, tourists were sleeping and I was out hunting with the big white gun, I came across a group of men in full camo and all were very well armed. I backed up and they did not scurry off or shoot so I concluded they were obviously game scouts. (What poacher is going to stand beside a road)

It is a constant war.

2011 while in a camp in South Africa. Their was 1 white rhino that was victim to poachers.

The poachers had used a dart gun to subdue the rhino and then cut the horns off and left the rhino for dead. The rhino was spotted by the rhino anti poaching patrol and a vet was brought in to save the rhino. The rhino is shy and i could not get a picture of it, it was always looking away when i was around.

Game farm poaching patrols are a given, from the number of snared animals walking around with a snare on their leg. Found a few dead animals from snares also.

From what i have personally seen poaching is on going. People are hungry, there fore poaching will continue.

Ran into numerous poachers/poacher camps while in DRC, some of it was purely for meat, but alot of the poaching was directly related to funding of various factions inside the country

Looks like this is more common than I expected. I was surprised at how patient and relentless these guys were. They new we were aware of their presence and persisted(on following nights) even after a night of being actively pursued. They showed some skill in nighttime movement. One sloppy moment that I can disclose is that they dropped a few .375 cartridges. I can only guess that the right moment to take the rhinos never came up because they new that our response would not have allowed escape.

We see a lot of poaching from chaps coming down from DRC, they are rough guys and quite trigger happy.
Its tough terrain they come down through and no one from the villages they pass through wants to talk about it. The only way forward for us is more man hours on the ground. So far so good.
The majority of poachers in the area are low volume "subsistence" poachers, but there are a few well organized crews that target buff, hippo, ele. its quite amazing how quickly a large animal like a buff can "disappear"

I would pay top dollar to go hunt poachers!! Lol

I bumped into this today. Astounding.

Set yourself out as bait, drifting in a nice yacht waiting for the potential pirates to drop by.

Dubai tour company offers pirate hunting cruises off horn of Africa

After years of murders, kidnappings, and heists, the lawless sea near the horn of Africa seems to be getting worse. A Dubai firm is capitalizing on these pirate infested waters with a strange new form of pirate tourism. The tour company, Dubai based Seahunters LLC, sells both 7 and 14 day cruises embarking from Salalah, Oman and Abu Dhabi, UAE. Unlike the quintessential cruise, the cruisers do not board in hopes of devouring mid-morning nacho buffets or snorkeling with dolphins. These cruisers board in hopes of embarking on a hunting trip with the most taboo of target - humans.

Like any proper cruise, you can choose a type of stateroom with offers ranging from the humble sounding "standard inside" to the opulent "Hemingway suite." The similarities to any other cruise end abruptly when you begin assembling your personal armory. With offerings such as the predictably yielding "bazooka package" and a "mercenary madness" kit, you can personalize your weapons cache almost endlessly. The "mercenary madness" package includes rental of a M107 .50 caliber sniper rifle, an AR 15 assault rifle, and an 18kt gold plated Desert Eagle pistol. Bow and arrows are also available for purists. Flamethrowers can be rented as well, though require a 3 day licensing course prior to departure.
Ports of call include the otherworldly Socotra island known for its Dragon's Blood trees, andMogadishu - the most dangerous city on the planet.

With only 17 rooms, the pearl white yacht is sized to attract attention from opportunistic pirates while spending days drifting aimlessly through the Gulf of Aden. Seahunters does not guarantee that pirates will attempt to board the boat, but in the event that they do, the cruisers are free to defend themselves with their weapons. What this defense entails has been the target of several human rights organizations. Decrying this bizarre form of freelance privateering, many groups feel that baiting the pirates into the line of fire is an extreme example of human insensitivity and a case of morbid exploitation. Seahunters maintains that their program will provide substantial positive externalities such as safer waters due to a fearful pirate population.

A typical seven night cruise itinerary
Day 1 - Flight to Salalah Airport from Dubai, welcome dinner and concert
Day 2 - Boat departs
Day 3 - At sea
Day 4 - Mogadishu tank tour
Day 5 - At sea
Day 6 - The "Splendor of Socotra" tour on Socotra Island
Day 7 - At sea
Day 8 - Return to Salalah

you cant be serious ,bricko.

Interesting idea and business opportunity although it does seem to perpetuate a few negative connotations towards contractors. I'm no marketing genius, though.

nah ,mate
its a fair deal,
at least the pirates have the opportunity to shoot back .
that makes it sport hunting , in its truest form !!

Too bad, I'm sure a good double might provide some advantage to an experienced user. It might settle the age old argument; Bolt or Double?
