I seem to be a bit late in the game on this, but did you guys know that the ATF has classified Barnes Banded Solids as "armor piercing" and banned them? How messed up is that?
 
I heard about it, didn't know if it was true.

Just about everything that our government does now days is messed up.
 
Im not sure what that means. ALL rifle bullets are AP. The AP classification really only applies to HANDGUN ammunition for importation and since BARNES bullets are made in the US and for RIFLES it doesn't matter if they say they are Thermonuclear.
 
So my little 570g .510 caliber Barnes Banded Solids are AP? I'm sure I'm grandfathered so the 10 boxes or so should last me ... :)
 
I've been looking for an excuse to buy a lathe anyway.

It is true....

They are being "reviewed." Who in the heck knows how long that will take? And as with the usually messed up government regulations the only "ban" is that Barnes can't sell them. They are both legal to possess and for others to sell. I got lucky and found some for my .375 H&H at budsgunshop.com back in January and picked up several boxes which will last me for years.
 
All calibers are not banned. Depends on if someone has made a handgun of that particular bore diameter. I lucked out having a .404. As far as I can tell all it takes is one jackass to make one handgun for it to make the list if ATF finds out about it.
 
ATF under B H Obama spells deep bad news.
