Headed back to Africa and am looking for a nice double rifle. Was wondering what everyone thinks of Krieghoff. How dependable, safe, worth the money or look elsewhere.
Thank you for you help.

Checked one out at SCI I liked it, price around $16000 for one so cost not bad. I now have a Merkel and I'm looking for a second one, likely what I'll buy. Wife said no to the H&H in 700 Nitro for $450,000 so I think I can sneak a Krieghoff in.

If you can get used to that goofy (IMO) thumb cocker and remember to use it in times of stress it'll make a dandy rifle.
If you're in a bind and needing the shot quickly and forget to manually cock it then you'll know what being 'up the creek' really means.

But then again I like the old hammer guns an if I'd forget to cock them.. Same thing.

If typically don't forget how to use a safety, you won't "forget" to cock the K gun. They are in the same place. Simply takes a bit more pressure. It makes the K gun (and the Blaser S2) the safest gun to carry as number two or three in a line chasing a buff or elephant and as quick to get into action as any traditional double. Quite a few African PH's, who can afford them, carry them. Jammy Traut (.500) and Nick Nolte (.470) to name two.

I'm quite biased, having recently bought one. But having been a little sceptical at first, I must say I have become used to it quickly and all my concerns about the cocking device are unfounded - for me!

Great simple rifle, mine is plain and just what I like in a dbl...........I did get extra lucky having got a 3 x barrel set (which makes the option great as for a small investment the factory will set you up with more barrels and you end up with 2 x double rifles for a small extra cost. (I even got a 20g shotty gun!)

so well worth a look IMHO

you dont have any choice but to like them with a 3 in 1 version :biggrin2:

Krieghoff, as well as several other modern makers, are now using the manual cocker. I use a variety of different double rifles, modern and vintage; I happen to like the manual cocker; even have it on a nice single shot .30-06 Sabatti that I use for deer hunting in Montana and Oregon. Modern Krieghoff rifles are a bit more heavy than comparable modern German doubles, though not too heavy, made very well of modern high strength alloy steels, well regulated; good overall. I have a pre WWII Krieghoff sidelock double rifle; it is well made too, understandably.

David, I have only just seen this thread now, my apologies.
If you are still looking and would consider a good used double then a close friend of mine has a large number of doubles of various makes in varying calibers for sale.
All are in good condition and well cared for.
He is simply exchanging the bulk content of his un-used gun-safe into cash to pay for hunts !
He recently sold an up-graded, gorgeous VC .500 for about 60% replacement cost.

If you are interested in discussing with him what he has left ( he has doubles from .375 through to .577 for sale) just drop me an e-mail at; ssahuntinfo@optusnet.com.au

Who did you Order it through? I am looking at getting one some time late this year... I just want a .500 and 20ga barrel set, I am thinking about getting it from Europtic...

I looked at a nice Kreigoff at Cabela's the other day.....fit well..but sights were a little different with the outline rear sight with tru glo front.....wonder how they stack up against Searcy's ?????

I was lucky enough to find it from a guy here in Zambia!

So sorry not able to help with that!

No worries! Thanks for the response! I have no idea how they stack against a searcy, I am looking at those too, but I heard a rumor that he might be retiring soon, and I want a double that I can get serviced for the next 40+ years... I am pretty sure the Kgun will still be in business then...

I would be interested in it if you pass. Please send me the info on the gun shop if you do not buy it. I have the needed ammo and brass.
Thanks,
