Hey Guys (and gals)
As a hunting columnist for a newspaper, I was reminded as my safari approaches, not to publicize actually when we were leaving. In this modern world of social media, we don't always know who's really watching. You can be setting yourselves up for a theft. Unless, as in our case, you have someone housesitting with 2 dogs.
Recently, one of our friends in the oil/gas industry, said his boss was cleaned out at his home in Colorado, while he was here in Ohio. The weirdest scenario I've heard of was a local fellow received an envelope in the mail that contained 2 tickets to a Cleveland Indians ballgame with a note saying "Congratulations on winning our drawing! Here are the tickets that you won...Enjoy!" He didn't remember entering any contest, but...what the heck? He took his wife to the ballgame, and when he returned, the house was empty. All the neighbors said that they saw a moving van pull up to the front door, and 3 men took it all. They "didn't want to disturb them" thinking that they were moving!
I have not even mentioned it in my column, so that no one would "disturb" my home while we are away. Enjoy your trip, but first secure things at home, so that yoju can relax and enjoy your safari!! Thanks..hunterhanna!!

I do not let people know I have went until I'm back.

However, when we both leave, we have a house sitter to watch the place.

as wrong as it is that's pretty funny , the thieves sending the owners away for the act.
when we go my dad comes up and catches up on the garden (grand pa green thumb )my wife calls him .
this july my little brother is coming up with him .to try and hook a bluefinn tuna and a broad bill sword fish ,while we are away.
hope he looks after the kids little boat

Good reminder.

Wife has no desire to tag along to Africa, so she takes care of home. I save on airfare but spend it on trophy fee's.

Hello Hunterhanna,

Yours is an excellent post.

Thank you for it/I totally agree with you.

The cost of an alarm, motion triggered hidden cameras, a serious vault, paying a family member or long standing family friend to stay in your house during your vacation, etc., are all worth every penny.

Regards,
Velo Dog.

I hope the game was at least a good one.

Sadly there are crooks around. Some are smarter than others.

Be smart don't open links on emails that you don't know the source either.

You also never know when I might be lying about my departure or return date.
It's like baiting from a blind. Trophy fees are low and there is no sense of needing to do taxidermy.

It had to be said.... :)

Same with me. I am leaving her at home with two very large dogs and my 590A1 ;)

a friend of mine came home from an overseas hunt , and as he was driving into his place he notice his boat was gone and then he thought ,liz must be washing the curtains...

lizzy had cleaned the house out and took his boat .
thankfully she left his firearms and trophy room untouched,
now he is in the middle of buying her a house so she and one of friends can live happily ever after.......
its not so bad he says , atleast l got my boat back ..........

Last time the crooks broke in my house they actually brought stuff with them

I agree.... Great post. They say the best way to keep burglars out of your backyard, is to hang one in your front yard!!!!

And keep the wife the wife there with a loaded pistol by nightstand.....

Brick thinks like I do One never knows if I'm telling the truth of when I leave to go somewhere Actually when I was very young my Dad followed a burglar around the house as he tried every window from the outside. My Dad was inside with the 12 ga shotgun just waiting for a head to poke through. Too bad all the windows were locked. He swore for years that he should have gone ahead and unlocked one. I have the same shotgun and I will do the same thing!
Also have an alarm system and usually a house sitter. We live in a small community and the neighbors are alerted and so is the local Sheriff.
If I'm home when they try it, I'm ready to dance!
Firearm Training Courses - Handgun ( Glock, etc.), Shotgun, Rifle, (Sub) Machine Gun - from FrontSight.com take a look, great training!

Good post, but no worries here, have a 24 hour armed guard, and she shoots real well, lol...........

I would be interested in it if you pass. Please send me the info on the gun shop if you do not buy it. I have the needed ammo and brass.
Thanks,
Ross
