Anti Hunters Disguised as Members on Africahunting.com

This is deeply troubling. I recieved a pm asking me to be part of a documentary and I'm glad I read this before I agreed to anything. He asked for my phone number. What's even more upsetting is that he targeted me with his Israeli ploy just because of my name. People who are trying to hack the information of hunters are despicable and must be stopped. I have a reputation to maintain and cannot be targeted by anti hunters. What's really sad is that it would be great if ACTUAL students, researchers, documentarians, etc. came to AH to ask questions so they would not be misinformed by antis. It may also change peoples minds on hunting. Like everything else, though, the anti hunters have to ruin this too. It's sad that we have to be so defensive and view anyone asking questions as a possible threat. I guess this is what happens when anti hunters do whatever they want.

.......... It's sad that we have to be so defensive and view anyone asking questions as a possible threat. .....

I openly support any reasonable inquiry.
Be open and honest with your intent and I'll support honest interaction and discourse every day of the week.

Researchers, students and others do come here and ask questions, with which I have no issue and have personally participated in answering them directly and honestly, both publicly and privately.

Abuse of the site or its members will not be tolerated. Otherwise, have fun.

Brickburn's pragmatic attitude is admirable. The high road is always better in these types of situations. I wish I could travel via that route more often....

I can tell you, in my personal experience, that I have responded with caution to different "researchers" and "students" on a couple of different occassions on this site and others. My reply was respectful, and I informed them that their inquiries would be met with cooperation and an eagerness to educate by the majority of the memebers if their intentions were legitimate. I also cautioned them that they may also be met with doubt and suspicion because of the very reason this thread was started. This wording in my reply apparently smoked them out for who they truly were. I never received replies or saw further inquiries from them again....At least not under the same name.

My point is that it's very nice to be willing to be open and cooperative in legitimate circumstances. The problem, however, is that legitimate inquirers seem to be the exception rather than the rule...

Perfect, you dealt with it as you saw fit and managed the issue.

I have followed up on other non-hunting sites when there have been "issues" with members and provided reasonable support for the hunting side of the issue. Neutral and informative. I refuse to be drawn into debate if the person acts like a TROLL.
Otherwise, I am up for a chat. :)

I have a couple of points about this. First, I don't believe that he contacted you because of your name (i.e., "handle"), thinking you were Jewish. He also contacted me.

I met with the person in question. I believe that he is legitimate. Ultimately, for business reasons more than anything else, I declined to be filmed for his project. He makes a reasonable claim of wanting to present a "balanced" view. However, like beauty, balance is a very subjective thing.

Maybe he thought you were a Mtgoat, a good climber but not real bright. ;) An easy mark.

he contacted me using the exact same email, I politely turned down his request.

if he is indeed an anti-hunting troll then im glad the staff here gave him the boot!

Spike my mug needs to be in there I'll even do my tongue pose!!!!!

My best always.
Hey Jaco, since they're filmmakers, maybe you should ask them to come over and film you doing a remake of the african movie classic "The Naked Prey".
Offer to send them publicity photos.

Could this be one of them?

Hi Chris,

I am one of the producers of the television program ?0 Minutes in Australia, and I知 looking to come over to South Africa to do a story about the sustainable hunting of lions.

I thought I would get in touch with you because your company seems extremely professional and well set up and we壇 love to be able to show what the exciting possibilities are for hunting lions in private reserves in South Africa.

Weæ± e looking at trying to observe and film a lion hunt in March and wanted to see if we might be able to do that with you.

Our story will focus on the legal hunting of lions in private reserves, and how it is a sustainable measure to actually protect the lions in the wild.

We would be happy to pay to be observers. And we would love to interview you as part of our piece.

Let me know if you think this is something we could do with you.

Kind regards,
Hannah Boocock

At least with this person you might be able to find a CV of activities that are legitimate and see what their work is about.

I got exactly the same email as Chris. I did not even reply to the email. They will find a way to turn the story and put the hunters of Lion in a bad light.

If you get your enjoyment from tormenting others on the Internet, you may be exhibiting symptoms of personality disorders.

A research paper completed by Erin Buckels of the University of Manitoba with the help of two colleagues looked at how Internet trolls stack up against the Dark Tetrad.

The Dark Tetrad encompasses Machiavellianism, a willingness to manipulate and deceive others, narcissism, which is egotism and self-obsession, and psychopathy the lack of remorse and empathy and sadism, the pleasure in the suffering of others.

"Overall, strong positive associations emerged among online commenting frequency, trolling enjoyment, and troll identity, pointing to a common construct underlying the measures," according to the paper's abstract.

The conclusion of the paper inferred that cyber-trolling appears to be "an Internet manifestation of everyday sadism."

Also from the paper: "Both trolls and sadists feel sadistic glee at the distress of others, they wrote. Sadists just want to have fun ... and the Internet is their playground."

They also said that banning users doesn't necessarily discourage users, so solutions to trolling still need contemplation.

The only sensible way to agree to do a film with a legitimate film maker on this subject is to make sure you had a clause that stated that you must approve of the final cut before airing.

With the low amount of troll activity I think we have the solution right here, civility. Unfortunately that is likely to be one of the last avenues utilized on most forums. I think the lack of willingness of AHers to participate and feed these Trolls, and the subsequent lack of stimulus that provides, keeps them at bay.

I have dealt with anti hunters before and have found them to b a sorry lot with no life or worth wile goals. They feel they know what is best for us, when they don't even know what is best for them. I would not sink to there level. I think the people on this site should b able to pick them out, but thank you for the heads up. This is a good site and I love to read the posts. I would say to the antis We are all for one and one for all, you need to go some where else.

As one who may have been near the first to get the PM I contacted Jerome right away. It just seemed fishy to me. Everyone needs to be on the lookout. I sent him over to another web address I have to get him off of AH and now I ignore him.

Here's my answer to these "documentary producers": I want FULL EDITORIAL CONTROL over the film and final cut. Same with a reporter doing an interview. That's usually enough to send them on their way.

I learned a long time ago to NEVER talk to a reporter. No good ever comes from talking to a reporter!
