Best/Funniest Mount Ideas

Well, I'm going on my first safari soon and I was thinking about how I want my trophies mounted. I do have some unused space so I'm thinking about doing an africa diorama in my basement. Not only would this be an insanely cool way to show my trophies to people, but I can keep adding trophies to it. On top of that, it will be the best way of always reminding me of Africa. That, in my opinion, is a great way of doing my first mounts, but not the best, and certainly not the funniest. I'm just thinking, a great mount and way to always remember Africa would be to take a baboon trophy as then have a torso style mount of it where the back is flat so it can be mounted flat on a wall. Then, have a towel rack placed in its hands so thn I can have it mounted in my bathroom and use it to hold my hand towels. You tell me that that is not the best and funniest idea for a mount ever. Anyone else have some great ideas?

Most outfitters will let you shoot baboon for free... I thought a full body standing upright in dressed in either a ring-bearer tux or little French maid dress would be BA!

Also a warthog 1 of 2 ways, split between a door way (headhalf on one side of the wall..ass end on the other,..or the ass end of the warthog with it's tail straight up and a beer bottle opener for the anus.

Saul, I think the diorama idea is awesome. Are you thinking a lifesize diorama or a mix of shoulder wall pedestal and floor pedestal mounts with an African backdrop? Either will look great if planned out well. I suggest letting someone who is very experienced in diorama work do the taxidermy. Good dioramas are quite expensive but well worth the money if you can afford them.

To each their own with the Baboon mount but word to the wise, the wife will hate it and it will be quite tacky no matter how much it amuses you initially. Also taxidermists hate doing them for these very reasons.

I think a better and equally eye catching mount would be an action scene. Maybe 2 lifesize baboons fighting over a bone or 1 baboon chasing another while a Springbok leaps out of the way as they blow right underneath him. Your imagination is your only boundary (or the imagination of your taxidermist). These type of one of a kind mounts attract attention not only initially but every time you see them, they never get old. Place this feature mount in front of an African scene mural and well placed shoulder and wall pedestal mounts and you could have a diorama that leaves people talking about it long after they leave and if done by someone who specializes in this type of scene you will be surprised how little space it can take up or how much depending on exactly how much space and how extravagant you want to go.

take a look at some of Artistry of wildlifes "air" mounts and Animal artistrys dioramas. If that doesn't give you some ideas what is possible nothing will.

You're right it is tacky. For the diorama, I'm definitely planning a full size one. I've always loved the African dioramas at museums so I want the same thing.

Sounds like an epic trophy room in the making. Definitely don't scrimp or trust this to someone who doesn't do this on a daily basis. A big part of a truly inspirational scene is a flowing theme where each mount interacts with to the one next to it, the animals are in motion and going about some part of their daily lives instead of simply standing like a bunch of statues.

The best part of a mount like this is that the sky is the limit and planning it out will be nearly as much fun as collecting the specimens. A taxi worthy of this type of undertaking should be able to preplan the entire thing and rough sketch it beforehand for you (and himself).

I would scour the internet for mounts that really captivate you as well as live pictures that speak to you and build from there with your Taxis help. Contact them BEFORE your hunt and they can give you some great ideas. The little things make or break a scene like this, the addition of a guinea fowl or vervet monkey can really add a lot in some cases, if you know what you need to complete your scene beforehand you will be able to collect it while you are in Africa instead of regretting it later.

Im not sure where you live but don't just look locally, for a project like this the greats will travel, first to plan things out in your trophy room and then again once everything is complete to set it up.

I am trying to figure out how I can have red LED's placed in the eyes of my Warthog mount. The LED's would be connected to electronics that would sync to sound.

We would play loud disco/rock music and watch the Warthog's eyes blink to the music's beat.

We did a wallaby in a tux with both hands out and up. He stands on the end of the bar holding a silver platter with hordevours (spelling???).
