AfricaHunting.com Under Attack

'Resentment is like drinking poison and then hoping it will kill your enemies.'

I have read that quote is attributed to Nelson Mandela. Regardless, there is wisdom in those words.

"You must know when to draw your saber and you must know when to throw away the scabbard."

I have always been told that a math teacher at Virginia Military Institute by the name of Thomas Jackson made that statement to his students in 1860.

I am a high school biology teacher in Texas. I use this forum a great deal in my classes. It has provided great pictures of wildlife. It has provide great information on the status of animals across the world and especially in Africa. It has provided balance to many of the nature videos that we show in class. It has caused many of my students to think differently.

This forum is in the fight. The saber is drawn and the scabberd is thrown away but we must not resent our foes because we must live with them and we must live with ourselves.

Keep laughing. Keep telling of the adventure. Keep helping each other. Keep talking of the mystery of Africa. People will want to listen. People will want to experience it.

Awesome, you made my day.

Thank you to all who maintain and support this site. As others have done, I have just upgraded to Gold. I encourage more to do the same. I also believe that we should not lower ourselves to that of our detractors. Continue to educate those you can. My wife's niece was against hunting and then went to Ghana with the Peace Corps several years ago. When she came back, she told me she now understood that there were sufficient animals to hunt when managed and is supportive of what I do. What a change!

I wish I could be a fly on the wall to see the facial expressions of the idiots who hacked the site once they realized they only made Africahunting.com stronger and more powerful through their efforts. Glad your ignorance is working-out for you!!!!

You have truly identified how to combat the enemy. Shine a light on them and turn up the heat. They will scatter like the cockroaches they are. Naming and shaming, particularly if you post their pictures and addresses has a way of scaring them silly as they are cowards. Threats are taken seriously by law enforcement and once the complaints are made it is government money and manpower not AH resources being used. They have successfully used the government against us for years, time to give them a taste of their own medicine.

Thanks to all who make this site the great resource it is.

Brian

name and shame Jerome .
not real good to get death threats mate, specially towards family members
ithink its wise to let people , know how low these activists will/do go to get people to believe that they are right ,we see it in my industry regularly, that quite often these supposedly peacefull people will say anything about anyone ,right or wrong to get their opinion across .putting these threats online for anyone to read cant be a bad thing .
those reposible for them are more than likely, not accountable for their actions .once they run out of wind they hastily disappear from my experience .

.

I agree with you Brian, if people knew we would publish their threats for the whole world to see, I bet they would think twice about being so BOLD with threats of violence. I would like to put these cowards in their place and shut them up.

I see this as a double edged sword. If we post their threads and e-mails we give them the attention they want. On the other hand if you post their e-mails you must post their return e-mail address's so we as a group can reply directly to them. I like a good fight as much as the next guy. I just don't feel we need to lower ourselves to their level.
A death threat against you or your family should be reported to the FBI . It is cyber bullying. There are laws against it and in view of recent events is taken seriously.
I don't think there is much you can do once you post a picture it becomes public domain on the net, and is there for anyone to use.
I love this site and will do what ever I can to support it.

Agree with A. Any photo placed on the internet is public, meaning anyone with the knowledge has access and can used the photo for negative purposes. Any website can be hacked. I tried accessing the Conn Shotgun site a couple of months ago and a Calvin Klein add kept popping up instead. It was corrected within a couple of days. It is just the nature of the beast and we have to deal with it.

FYI. My photos are copyright and likely so are yours.

When creators produce a work for themselves, they own the copyright.

That however does not stop unscrupulous use because it is so easy to copy electronic files.

Copyright is based on a simple principle: whoever creates or owns a work controls how that work is used. To qualify for copyright, a work must be:
Original
Not a copy of an existing work.
Fixed
Exist in some identifiable (i.e. physical, visual, electronic) form. Also, the work must be created by a person who is a citizen or resident of Canada, or connected with another country that adheres to the Berne Convention or a similar international copyright treaty, or is first published in such a country. Canadian copyright law applies to works in Canada. If a work created in Canada is used in another country, then that country's copyright law applies.

Here are some general guidelines about who owns copyright on photographs and illustrations in the absence of written agreements to the contrary. When photographers/illustrators create photos, portraits or engravings (in the case of illustrators, portraits only):
When creators produce a work for themselves, they own the copyright.
When creators produce a work as part of their employment, including apprenticeships, the employer owns the copyright.
When created on a commissioned basis, the person or company that commissions the work owns the copyright once they have paid for it in full. If the client who commissions the work fails to pay for it, the copyright remains with the creator.

I would never argue with you on a legal basis, but the reality is there are thousands of people out there that will take our photos posted on the web and use them for their own purposes, mostly against us, if they so desire. Most of us do not have the knowledge, money, time or a combination of the three to seek punishment for the individuals using our photos illegally.

The copyright thing is probably right. I am in no way a lawyer. I do agree that the cost of prosecuting such a case would probably outweigh any compensation you would receive. Particularly if the people who used your photo did not financially benefit from the use of your photo. Kinda like a patent infringement. Pain in the butt to enforce.

Not likely going to get money out of them but it provides a reason for an enforcement action.

They know you don't have the money to chase them but they should know that you will go after them if they take something of yours.

At least Facebook complaints and their lawyers will act.

Won't stop me from posting pictures to share with the folks here. But, I find abuse of my photos. I'll be having a chat.

Thank you for all of the input, advice, care and support, I appreciate it all immensely.

Thank you Jerome for all of your efforts and maintaining this site. I'm very sorry to hear this but not surprised. I will miss you all at SCI this year, too many things going on, but hope to meet you all at the SCI conference next year.

Best Regards,

Chuck

it saddens me to hear your actually getting death threats! this only further reinforces my hatred for anti-gun and anti-hunting groups.

to any anti-hunters who might read this post: you have inspired me to donate money to this forum.
