DNA test on hunting trophy

Well Bart, your Rooicat/Caracal looks like a bad choice of a taxidermist. The mount looks old and that's cuz it is a piss poor job, period!

I could pick it apart but that's not what you are looking for. As far as it being a old mount or your new mount?
1) feel the fur, is it sticky, dirty or dusty?
2) are there cracks in the ears, lips, eyes etc. I could not see any from the pics if it was tanned or dry preserved.
3) smell,

I feel sorry for you. Being in the field of taxidermy and what I hear and see about piss poor taxidermy not only in "Africa" but every where.

What else did this taxidermist do for you, send some of those pics to compare quality.

Hi Roger. I'll probably burn the old mount. As you can read, i shot a new rooikat and i'll probably send it to Martin who did an expertise on the old mount and confirmed it was not my rooikat. (i know i can shoot, but a shot that turns a female into a male is even for me difficult).

As you can see, i did not mention his name on an international forum. One reason for that is that he did other mounts for me which were quite good. I have a full mount nyala from him and i'll post a picture of a shoulder mount kudu. Maybe somebody stole my rooikat skin from him, and he made a bad choice trying to bluff his way out of it with me. And the internet is for eternity, once your name is posted on it, it will come back for years and years and we all make mistakes in our lifes.

That's why i decided to shoot a new one, and continue with my life. I will enjoy the full mount of this new rooikat for the rest of my life and it will have the memories of the stolen one.

I agree the internet is for eternity. "Bad choice trying to bluff".. No doubt. Unprofessional in the extreme.
I would like to be able to avoid these kinds of bad judgements.
Its that bad behaviour we all want to avoid. Not the good work they have done.

You have made us aware of the bad practices.

The taxidermist that made a mistake with my trophies took full responsibility. Never denied it, tried to bluff or hide from it. In fact, they bore the brunt of significant costs to ensure my Gemsbok made it to me.
It was a mistake that was corrected.
Them I trust and will support.

Dear fellow hunters,

It has been a while since i added something to my thread. Nothing changed, i still don't have my rooikat, mr. D.S. refuses to reply to any messages, all mails from SA instances telling me they will do anything or start any investigation were never followed up..... In the past few years, i've sorted out a lot of private and business problems which were much more important than a chubby taxidermist steeling from me but the way that he stole it and his laywers big mouth and threats still are in the back of my mind.

In the true hunting spirit, once i target a prey, i won't rest until i made the kill and i think it is time to do some more hunting.

My question to you is: What would be a fair amount of euros to compensate for the stealing of my rooikat and gemsbuck. I personally value it at at least € 2500, but maybe you have more experience with it.

If i know that my claim is not too high, i'm planning to ask all of his professional LinkedIn contact to help me with this problem... This specific taxidermist is all over the internet stating that he is o so very professional and advertising his business, but in reality he steals from his foreign customers and gives SA hunting a bad name. Maybe, some of his collegues who work in the same business can convince him to pay his debts to me...

I know it is a strategy which is a bit low to the ground and i love it. Always hunt your prey with the same strategies it uses on you. Mr. D.S. knows that an European Hunter can almost do nothing when a trophee is stolen in SA, we don't know the law and the habits in the country. That's why the chubby bastard thinks he can get away with it. But in modern times with media like LinkedIn, Facebook and hunting forums, there are other ways to shoot at your target.

As one hyena said to the other, the one laughing last is the one that wins! We will see what happens if i contact his LinkedIn contacts one by one by one... Off course, mr. D.S. is always allowed to reveal his identity on this forum and defend himself. So far his defense consisted of a laywer called Eugene who made a lot of threats and told a lot of lies, but who knows what he has to say.

I am very passionate when it comes to recommending South Africa as the preferred hunting destination, so it angers me greatly when I see this type of stuff happen. If you are ever in my neck of the woods, I will be happy to offer you a Caracal at no charge.

Marius, thanks. I probably won't use your offer cause my last hunt with rouan nel (also a member on this forum) was fantastic so if i return i book with him. But i took a look at your site and you run a very professional hunting business and i wish you a lot of clients. Always some clowns among us, I see. You won't believe the amount of big5 animals that have now "gone missing" from South African taxidermists...

This is a very sad situation indeed. Whether it is an old skin or not , the work is of extremely low standard. No one should be expected to pay for something like this. The hairslip could be from a very old skin or just bad field preparation of the trophy , which is the outfitters responsibility.
Always work through a reputable outfitter and taxidermist. A "good" deal can bite you in the butt.
Did your outfitter on the hunt recommend the taxidermist ? If so , the outfitter should get involved on your behalf. Ask him to sort it out directly with the taxidermist.
I feel ashamed that you got this type of treatment in my country.

No succes with the above strategy. I'll rest this case now.

Crisis is getting less in Holland, business is getting better. We are now thinking about booking another trip to SA and i'll focus now on this positive plan!
