Default Has anyone hunted with or know about these guys? Keerweder Safaris - Namibia

I'm trying to narrow down some options for my first plains game hunt in Namibia. So far from the responses I have gotten from outfitters I like them the best and they are offering me a fairly good deal for 8 days (7 hunting) with the following trophies.

    1 x Oryx
    1 x Kudu
    1 x Impala
    1 x Red Hartebeest

Here is some info they sent me about their operation in answer to my questions about hunting area size and if it is adjacent, low fence - free range, and how many hunters in camp...

Our own property is 7800 ha big (about 20000 acres). The concession area (surrounding our own property) is about 100 000 ha big. So the game will be sufficient, and you can be guaranteed a good hunt.
We do have plenty of animals of the species you are interested in.
Some areas have fences (up to the highest being 1.8 meters) but most species can either jump over or go under these fences. The main reason for this fence is to keep blue wildebeest from cattle farmed areas because they can carry some diseases that are dangerous to the cattle. SO I feel pretty safe to say that it is a free range area, since the area with the fence is about 4000 ha.
Remember to ask this question as well to people because with some you have to travel a few kilometers before you get to start hunting.
I would recommend a 7 day hunt. This should theoretically give you enough time for an Impala, Red Hartebeest, Kudu & Oryx.
We only take in one group of hunters at a time. So if it is only you coming alone, then it will only be you in camp for the hunt.
Here is a link to their website Keerweder Safaris Namibia : Hunting Safaris

I have heard from one of their references and I will be contacting more..

    What do you guys think?

It's alright, the accomodations drive the price up on the hunt. I have seen better pricing on animals, but maybe the quality is really good at Keerweder's.

They are offering me a package with the above animals and accommodations for $5300, which is a bit better then their web pricing...

That isn't a bad price then, I just took a look at their price list, that is more reasonable. I think the hunt is price is good!

    Goodday Veeyoder!

Keerweder Safaris is situated right next to us (Kowas Hunting Safaris) in Namibia. We know the Miller family very well... What I can tell you is that you will most definetly enjoy your safari there. They have the game numbers you would expect. Some great trophies come from them every year. Good lodging and accommodation.

What you have to clarify is your own expectations.... It is just that much more rewarding when the reality is equel to or greater than your expectations what you pay for. Its a fairly good price. Also clarify exactly what method of hunting will you be making use of (on foot via walk-n-stalk or from a vehicle) since it CAN destroy the experience you expected.

Good luck with your choice and enjoy the planning... its part of the adventure!

    My regards, Jacques Strauss

    veeyoder, Hello
Your process in choosing an outfitter is proper. Get as much info as you can from several sources and clients. You will find that "bottom feeding" for the lowest price possible may not give you the experience you are thinking of. Jacques is right on in his assesment. This place seems to fit the bill for "what YOU want". And in the end that is what is important. You can make a safari anything YOU want. YOU have to be comfortable with whom ever you choose. You will be with them night and day for 8 days. On the other hand THEY are inviting you into their home for a week so it goes both ways. Treat people with respect and you get respect back. It sounds like you are doing just fine.
The vast majority of the outfitters in Namibia or South Africa ( I limit my comments to those countries as we are most familiar with them and not that there are not others that are just as good) do an outstanding job of providing a world class service and experience sometimes 100 miles out in the bush when WallMart is not right around the corner. They are all very proud of their country (and rightly so), proud of the service they provide (again, rightly so ) and they desire to give you the trip of a lifetime. Remember that a safari is a culmination of many experiences and not just the collecting of certain animals. So many times, we in the United States focus on the actuall collection of the quarry that we forget to remember the total experience of the hunt and the outdoors. Don't make that mistake in Africa, take in the entire experience for the memory lingers far after the cost is forgotten.
    One final thought-
IF YOU GO ONCE-YOU WILL GO AGAIN-DEAL WITH IT!

I hunted there with my wife in May and it was the best time ever. Kind, comfortable, and generous. I will be back, we both took 3 animals each, 5 of them were gold medals and one was silver due to a broken horn which made the animal even more special. I cannot say enough about the service and atmosphere. The trackers were excellent the country beautiful
and the animal were plenty and challanging to hunt. The service was 5 star all the way. Go with them and you won't be dissapointed.
