I've used nothing but Merrill Moabs and tag gaiters for several years.They are just really comfortable and fit me perfect.I'm sure there are other great boots I could use but if it's not broke don't fix it.
I use a 1x6 Leupold and leave it on 1x until I'm on the sticks and If there is enough distance and time crank it up to 6x although 1x is really enough for any realistic range on buffalo.
I celebrated my 45 birthday in Zimbabwe on my first safari and was 58 on my second trip to Zim in 2019 and my last safari in Zambia I was 60 and hope to return soon as I have an elephant waiting on me.
I believe these had Oberndorf actions and the 44580 serial number is the Oberndorf Mauser serial number.I have one simular but is in 8x57 and the serial 1121 number dates it to 1899 as it is a transitional intermediate small ring action.

A good gunsmith can install internal cross bolts if you feel the need external cross bolts look great properly installed.I like quarter ribs properly done but as said above it doesn't carry quite as well in hand.
So far for me it has been buffalo but I see elephant and leopard in the near future so that may change. For non dangerous game hyena would be my favorite.
