Wow! Congratulations to the hunter and PH! What a truly wonderful specimen.

At one time, I was fortunate and lucky enough to hold the world record Cape Eland. An article in Magnum Magazine told the whole story. I have seen it bested a few times, one of which prior to this one came from a neighboring area a few years later, and its horns were virtually identical in configuration to the one I took. No doubt the old boy I took had spread his genes around that part of SA.

That safari taught me about the eland's nimbleness and how quickly they can gap you in stark contrast to what their bulk might convey. Eland will take a hunter to school!

At that time, I did not know what a Lord Derby Eland was, and the respect I had for the Cape Eland pushed me to C.A.R. to hunt them later on. While watching a small herd meander about, I saw one propel itself over the top of another one that was standing next to it. Amazing.

Eland, no matter the type, are worthy. So, hat's off to this miracle of nature from Namibia. It's more than special.
