Mini Cape Buffalo... Taken in CAR 2009

Note the deep curls that are not typical of a central African savanna buffalo. The spread is 31 inch.

Yes, it is very interesting in deed. In areas where the Cape and forest buffaloes mix, the way to "classify" a buffalo is to put the cranium on flat ground, and if the bottom of the horns touch the ground but not the molars in the upper jaw, then it is a cape. If the molars touch/stand on the ground and the curl/horn does not touch the ground, then it is not a cape. This buffalo could be classified as a cape... strange enough
