Buff-Buster, very well written, being a sheep dog myself (soldier) i have passed this amongst my peers as a reminder of why we do what we do.

Very good article - I'm a 30 year firefighter, veteran and currently the minister for a mid-size congregation in Texas. There are usually 4-5 armed men in our congregation on Sunday and I am one of them.

Wow, that one hit home! I had started to wonder if I was a closet psychopath, feeling that it is NOT okay to let bad people do bad things to good people. In my younger years, that feeling had made me volunteer for military service in my country (then West Germany, during the Cold War), but now I live in a country where not only am I not allowed to carry as much as a pocket knife, but I face prosecution, sentencing, loss of my firearms licence and possibly jail if I hurt an intruder in my own home - EVEN IF I DON'T USE A FIREARM!!! Yet I can't shake the feeling that it is my duty to protect those that can not protect themselves. In a land that preaches that gun owners are potential criminals (and treats them as such!), real criminals get a slap with a wet bus ticket while honest citizens live in fear. And no, I am not living in some Third World back water dictatorship, I live in a country that considers itself to be progressive, openminded and liberal.
Back in Germany, military service was compulsory, unless someone was incapable of killing on conscience grounds. It was quite a popular thing among my school friends to be "Pacifists", and do civilian service indstead. Long nights were spent in discussions of this. For me, eventually, it boiled down to a conviction that I have held on to for all of my life, and that I could without qualms give as an answer when my drafted soldiers asked me: "Lieutenant, why do we have to be here?" I believe that no one, no individual and no country, has the right to attack another to get what they want. If they do, the attacked has the right to defend himself. And if the attacked is incapable of defending himself, it is the duty of those who are to do it. Guess that makes me a sheepdog, too. Thanks, Buff-Buster, you made my day!

Your welcome guys. I love the way this article articulates this. "sheep.dogs" have been protecting the world from "wolves" since time began. Good has always seemed to triumph. I fear the "sheep" are beginning to out number the sheep dogs and look at them as something that needs to be nuetered. All the while, evil continues to grow stronger, is multiplying and spreading. The sad part is that the sheep dog is loyal to those that cannot/will not protect themselves. Even those that would have him neutered.

One of my oft-quoted verses of Scripture -
For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. II Corinthians 11:13-15

Yes, the sheep wish to neuter the sheep dogs because the wolves (in sheep's clothing) tell them we are the dangerous ones.
