Upcoming US Elections

Here's a topic that could get interesting....I have quite a few friends (PH's) in Zim, Moz & S.A. that got me thinking about this topic. The people in the US, typically, don't realize just how much our political scene affects the rest of the world. Especially, the position of President of the United States. Alot of people around the world follow US politics probably closer than most Americans (I know that's sure to offend some, but I said "most" not "all") Judging by the posts on this forum, we have quite a few members that live outside the states and around the world. I would love to get all of yours perspectives on: 1) Our current "President". 2) What is the general consensus among your circle of friends? It will be good to get perspectives from around the world.

The political scene here, is much like the groups for and against hunting. Neither will ever change the others view. (Republican vs Democrats or hunters vs. anti hunters.) On the political scene, the Independents (neither Republican or Democrat) truly hold the power. Like the Independents, there is a large segment of the population that is not passionate either way when it comes to hunting. These are the people, we as hunters, need to concentrate on educating. Forget about the hard core anti's, its a waste of time.

While i tend to agree with you on the out side watching our elections. This could turn into a flurry as it does on other web pages.

Above all else I try to vote for pro gun candidates in all elections. Weather we like them or not. For our members to say it does not make any difference , they are only fooling them selves.

I think it's good to have a sub-forum for this type of discussion. People come to the forums for all sorts of discussions, might as well have a section for life outside hunting as we do. I hate to say it....but there is more to the world than hunting....or so I'm told.

I would have to disagree, my late grandfather use to tell me that "life is the vehicle to get you to your next hunt"

As far as this topic, yeah this could turn into some kinda shit storm, I vote pro gun and pro hunting, anti abortion. I vote Republican, regardless

And he never has before either! It is my fondest hope that we can shoehorn this ass-clown out of office next November! I fear however that it may be an uphill battle. My PH and the outfitter where I hunted in Zim last summer were not at all fond of the current occupant of the WH nor was anybody else I talked to over there. Problem is we have ignorant people numbering in the millions in the US that vote and most of them are not qualified to empty the garbage let alone vote for president. By that I mean those that voted for the Bamster and likely will again. I like the quote floating around these days. "If you voted for Obama last time to prove you are not racist, vote against him this time to prove you are not stupid!" 'Bout sums it up.

Here is the viewpoint of one Canadian. Socialism does not work. I am a fiscal conservative and a social libertarian. We here in Canada have tried socialism and liberalism over the years and I feel that it has been a failure. With few exceptions, the market will work out what we want and need. We here in Canada are on our way back to a free market system.
If I were an American I would probably vote Republican. I could not see ever voting for a Democrat. In my opinion, Republicans candidates spend to much time on social issues. I know it alienates Canadians and I think it does the same for many Americans, especially the young people.
I know that our press and most of yours can't wait for the next statement by a Republican so that they can edit out the meaning and make them sound foolish.
Most of my friends are politically active and knowledgeable about American politics. I was hunting in South Dakota in December and had several polital conversations with others in camp (americans). They all commented that I seemed to know as much or more about American politics as they did. I can't say the same for them about Canadian politics. I guess the mouse knows more about the elephant than the els knows about the mouse.

Republicans spend too much time talking about social issues because they get tricked into it by the democraps that throw out phony issues to get a particular voting block upset, of late that would be the attempt to make women think that repubs hate all women and want to take away birth control rights etc. Its all a strawman sham orchestrated (expertly) by the White House, Media Matters, George Soros and all the little dem Indians in between. Unfortunately our side keeps suckering for this scam every time they run it. You would thing some people would learn.

I'm American, I predicted Obama would be President a year before Bush left office. SO THERE!

I think Obama will be re-elected. The man has the numbers. Throw logic out the window, it doesn't count in politics.

Saw a bumper sticker a while back, "We had to have a Carter to get a Reagan" Hopefully I was not the only one to see it... Things were pretty damn smooth under Reagan, whom was Pres when I served this beloved country. I feel for the troops now who have to take orders from this D.A.

Another bumpersticker along the same lines was a picture of Carter with the bubble cloud that read "I am not the worst pres. in US history anymore"

People are gullable and while I know that, most are not stupid. Have a lot of former "union" friends who voted for Barack the first time, who say they won't this time. Some of these guys are without a union job and have been sitting at home since he took office. Hell, the Chrysler plant in St. Louis was down/gone/hauled away within a year of the buyout/union vote,,,and all these guys that voted for him, unemployed....I preach and preach to people, hopefully I am converting some of these guys. I encourage all that want to save this country to learn the facts, then talk to the on the fence folks, tell them, that Obama is destroying the economy...

Prior to his election gas prices in the US were a hot topic of Obamas, he was blaming Bush, now look at the prices, they are higher now then they were then. i guess that's Bush's fault as well. Sorry got on a rant...

The problem 35bore in my opinion is there are no Reagans in the crop of Republican candidates we have. Perhaps Ron Paul would have been but he hasn't fit in well with the establishment. I think Newt could have been a great President, but unfortunately he keeps letting his ego get in the way. Romney is just Obama light. Santorum has got caught up in the social issues instead of focusing on the economy and the abomination "We have to pass it before we'll know what's in it" bill otherwise known as Obamacare.

With the economy improving albeit at a snail's pace, if it continues and unemployment yet again at a snail's pace continues to drop then I think enysse is right, Obama will be re-elected.

Okay rant over, back to enjoying hunting talk.

Thanks guys. As I would have bet money on it, the hunting community is basically made up of, conservative, common sense folks no matter what country you come from. Enysse - I pray that you are wrong my friend. This country is on the edge of going down a "slippery slope" so far, that we might never get it back. Our future (the US) and alot of the worlds future is riding on the results of this years election. We started something in Nov, 2010. Now we need to finish it in Nov.2012. .......Ok Phil...let's get back to Huntin talk!

But seriosly, the economic situation was brought upon USA by smocks from Wall street and shady brokers and bankiers operating without any form of governmental control. And it happened before Obama....

As a Swiss citizen, I would not dare judging american politics...
Apart saying that most candidates would find little appeal here, especially republicans...
What is liberals for you is center-right to us, conservatives would fare pretty much close to extreme right in some cases (not all).
i do not know if this is a chance or not, but we do not place so much emphasis on individuals, but much more on equilibrium, our system calls for it (no powerful president but a 7 people government made of 2 members of ech of the three strongest parties, plus one member of the best of the rest).
This makes that strong political party positions end up being "diluted", is this good or bad? don't know, but it worked fine for us for close to 60 years...

That's the opinion of myself and the people I associate with. The Bush administration was clearly out of control and not in touch with what was happening in the world. Bush gave the impression to the world he was just a puppet and we didn't know who was pulling the strings.

The current president has never been given a chance and the stream of vitriol and hatred directed towards him has become largely irrational and as such completely dismissable. He seems to have a much better grip on how the world works than his predecessors. I remember one of his first speechs as a Statesman in Egypt held a prediction and pre-cursor of the Arab Spring. I doubt Bush or his administration would have been able to come up with that level of perception.

It is up to the American people to determine their political future of course, but I'm generally surprised that the Republican side of politics can't find a respectable opponent. If they don't win the next election it is because they lost it. A negative campaign against the incumbant rarely impresses rational voters.

I have lived in the US for 18 months and found there is a very, very small difference between Democrat and Republican philosophy. To call the democrats socialist reveals how little Americans understand the differences in politics. Compared to some political systems I have observed and experienced I would describe Democrats as centralist and the Republicans only slightly right of centre.

Well I hate to say this but you dont know what the hell you are talking about! This idiot in chief has had 3 years and all the chances in the world to do lots of damage. Ever hear of Obamacare? Obama is a boob, a lighweight, an inexperienced novice who has no business being anywhere near public office. You likely dont know of his voting record before becoming president. He voted present more often than not and way more than any other Senator. He had never worked at a job beyond being a community organizer in Chicago and that means what we call "thug" politics. That and teaching liberal students in liberal college and was hardly distinguished, in fact most people that attended dont even remember him. Ever hear about his radical pastor whos church he sat in for 20 years? Ever hear of his association with a known domestic terrorist? He is no damn good and anyone who thinks otherwise is not in possesion of the facts. Wise up!

we live and die by the american dollar , so i watch there politics fairly close . and obama has done nothing execpt screw up . Not saying there problems were caused by him but he has done nothing to help either. He shot down a mega billion dollar pipe line that would have created 50k jobs and helpled the US be come less dependent on Saudi oil just so there would be no controversy come vote time . maybe self serving but not smart

I agree. I dont blame Obama for everything. But he sure has not helped with anything. He has spent more deficit money in 3 years than Bush did in 8 and all the other presidents before combined! This is not someone who is fiscally responsible. Willful ignorance is incurable and many US voters fit that description.
