Moratorium on all Professional Hunters from outside Zambia

It is a well known fact that the ZAMBIA WILDLIFE AUTHORITY (ZAWA) sees the Zambian Professional Hunters operating in Zambia in the same category as Doctors that is registered with a Medical Council, Lawyers that belongs to the Bar and Civil Engineers to the Institute for Engineers and so then the Professional Hunters as members of the Professional Hunters Association of Zambia. No Professional Hunter License will be issued by ZAWA unless he is a member of PHAZ.

After recent exploitation in Zambia by Professional Hunters from other African countries, the Executive Committee of the Professional Hunters Association of Zambia (PHAZ) has put a moratorium on all Professional Hunters from outside Zambia that acquires a PH License within Zambia.

It will only be Professional Hunters with a relevant reference letter from a Professional Hunters Association of a neighboring country that is recognized by the Professional Hunters Association of Zambia (PHAZ) that will be granted membership to PHAZ. Any Professional Hunter acquiring a Zambia PH license will also be screened and interviewed by PHAZ and his references will subsequently be checked.

Furthermore, any person without a traceable record and/or references will not be granted membership of PHAZ and therefore will not be license by the Zambia Wildlife Authority of Zambia (ZAWA) to act as a PH in Zambia. After the PH has been screened and find fit to join PHAZ, a letter of recommendation from PHAZ will be issued to the Professional Hunter that will grant him permission to be licensed by the Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) to act as a Professional Hunter within Zambia.

This will be with immediate effect. For any further information do not hesitate to contact me.

question...will a PH from another country be able to work in a camp under the direction of a licensed Zambian PH?

Good question James? Not sure, however I think if I was considering hunting in that situation I would try and get a ruling from PHAZ before committing to a booking.

Looks like Zambia wants to tighten things up a bit.
Makes me wonder what the motivations were/are?
