Great news for Canadians!
For those who may not know last night was a big one for gun totin Canadians (as well as Canadians in general)
The Conservative party won the federal election with a majority government. That means they will actually be running the country instead of a coalition of losing parties joining up and throwing a stick in the spokes of Canadian politics and calling a new election every 2 years in an attempt to regain thier lost (now long lost) thone of power.
Within the next 4 years the conservatives will abolish the long hated long gun registry that is a $2 billion (and counting) Liberal legacy which has had no efferct on crime rates. The Liberals have been pushing hard to keep this law in, going so far as to force their MPs to go against the wishes of their constituents and 'tow the party line' when the registry was narrowly saved in a recent vote to abolish it. Most Canadians oppose it.
Today is a good day for CanadaThe journey is the reward.

Politicians are loath to repeal laws they put into place. Just like Obamacare. Unless SCOTUS tosses it we are stuck with it. And I am not so sure that they will toss it. Hope Harper does right by Canada.

As a long time member of the Conservative party of Canada , I can assure you that this law will be repealed. We tried very hard last year and almost succeeded. A last minute whip by the Liberals made for failure. Please hold us accountable for this promise.
It's true that governments are reluctant to repeal any law. This government is different in many ways. Not all governments act for the short term. (See Ronald Reagan) As a majority gov't, we must keep our base happy. Our base detests the long gun regestry. My Member of Parliment tells me that it will take about 100 days to rid us of this insult.
I hope that I never have to eat my words. I prefer eland back-strap.
Cheers, Mike

I just checked your profile. Wow What a deer. I hunted Alta many times but have yet to even see one like that. If you are ever in need of a sheep partner, PM me (lol)
Cheers, Mike

If this stupid law is repealed, it will be a victory for every human being that believes they have the GOD given right to protect there home and family. Canadian or otherwise.
I have my fingers crossed.I have walked in the tracks of the elephant, heard the lion roar and met the buffalo on his terms. I shall never be the same.

Thanks, I was just in the right place at the right time. I had scouted a 186" 4x4 that I intened to kill opening morning but when I showed up I caught that big guy bedding down just before legal hunting time. After a 1/2 hour stalk and a 2 1/2 hr wait he stood up to stretch and he was mine. His teeth were worn to the gums and despite living in the middle of 1/4 of oats 1/4 of canola 1/4 of barley 1/4 of hay and 1/2 of peas with no roads traversing the parcel he was skin and bones. I beleive he is the buck the locals were calling "the king" that many people had been exclusively hunting for about 5 years, in his prime he was supposedly 230-240" B&C, when I killed him he had regressed down to 209" which was PLENTY big enough for me!!! LOL My hunting buddy was fortunate enough to take the buck that I had scouted originally the next morning. 2 great bucks in 2 days. That will be a hard feat to top!
As for sheep there are few things I enjoy more than sheep hunting. Definitely some of the most gruelling and relaxing sports, it is quite addicting. Unfortunately as a non resident it would take you about 12 years I beleive to pull a tag. If you are seriously interested I suggest you start applying immediately with zone choice 999 (priority point only) then once you have enough priority you can seriously start looking at making a hunt happen. Also since canadians with their own tags do not count in an outfitters allocation, relatively cheap outfitted hunts can be had. I suggest Kip Kelly out of Hinton, he is by far the best and most successful outfitter I know of. The area he hunts is not known for big rams but the chances of taking one home are 5 times as high plus this is a real wilderness hunt that will be 1-3 days ride on hoseback into a true unspoiled wilderness area. This ram was taken in the area he guides and is about average for the area. The journey is the reward.

Thanks for the info Diamondhitch. Kip's name has come up several times in my research. I will take your advice and apply in the next draw. Best of luck in June. KZN is not the wilderness we are used to but it will be the time of your life. I won't be back in Africa until next year. When I made my first trip a few years ago, it was to be a once in a life-time adventure. This hunt in 2012 will be number 3.
I don't know KZN very well (it took me a while to figure out where it is). If you need any general info on RSA or Zimbabwe, I would be happy to give you my opinions. I'm sure that this site will give you all the info that you need.
Cheers, Mike

Thanks Mike, draws will open up in June. This link will get you started but since you have hunted here before you may already know about it. https://www.albertarelm.com/
This hunt will be the first of many for me I am sure. KZN was my 1st choice since Nyala was #1 on my list and the mountainous terrain should at least feel a little bit like hunting at home as well (emphasis on little). LOL Eastern Cape looks like the next on my hit list then Zimbabwe, but I am getting way ahead of myself. Any input would certainly be welcome.
Later
DerekThe journey is the reward.

Congrats to our neighbors in the "Great White North!" That really IS good news. Now if the American people would just get their collective HEADS OUT OF THE BEHINDS, we will rid ourselves of this tyrannical socialist administration and reestablish some liberty in this country.
What Holder's so-called "Justice" Department with its BATF HQ cronies have pulled on us in an attempt at back door gun control is a crime. Meanwhile Hillary is busy at State working with the U.N. for a world wide control gun control treaty which is aimed at far more than what they're advertising. Be forever vigil, because as soon as you win a victory, there's some radical "progressive" on your tail looking to undo it!
