Hello from Louisiana
hey guys,
My name is Jay, and all my life I've loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, shooting, and anything else that puts me outside. I never thought I would want to hunt in Africa, it didn't interest me until I started talking to guys who went and I've added it to my list of things to do. I'm planning on hunting elk, moose, black and brown bear in the next few years, then working on Africa. I'm 25, and i work selling sporting optics. Looking forward to learning a lot from this forum.

Welcome, Jay. There are a few other Louisianians around here - myself included.
I've never been to Africa either, but that's going to change in about 25 days.

I hear great things about hunting in Louisiana. It is on my list of place to visit. I will just put in my 2 cents, hunting in Africa is unbelievable. If you love to hunt, it is a must! Welcome to the boards!

Welcome to AH Jay! After being on AH for some time I think that you might perhaps prioritize your hunts differently and put Africa ahead of other things!

Hi Jay,
Welcome to the forum of AH and to the world of AFRICAN hunting, Iam sure you would gather a lot from all the perceptions of the likeminded members and from their experiences.
Once you touch the Land of the Lions you are sure to be addicted to the drug called "AFRICA"
Happy Hunting !!!

I would urge you to work with a booking agent. They have no problem with trying to work within a budget. Like you, I was determined to go to Africa at 25. I didn't make it until I was 55, but the dream never died and I was thrilled beyond measure by the experience. In July I head back for buffalo, and next summer my spouse will accompany me for a leisurely plains game redux. Hold fast to that dream and go as soon as you can. And as a fellow Louisianian, I would note, we do just fine out there.

There is no place like Africa and you have to experience it yourself.

Welcome aboard Jay. I have been saving for my safari for the last 5 years, but I leave for a plains game bowhunt in South Africa in less than 75 days! Good luck.

Jay,
I live in New Iberia, really closer to Delcambre. What part of the state do you live?

I'm in the Hammond Area
I work for an optics company here in Hammond and i had a customer come in who's company is taking he and 12 others to Africa. it's very exciting, he had a long list of animals to hunt including elephants, cape buffalo, lions, and a bunch of other stuff. who knows how much a hunt like that cost. we were mounting scopes on his 375 h&h and my coworker was using normal Talley rings and i said "you tryin to kill that fella? what if he needs his iron sights in the field, lets set him up with some quick detach rings" I've not been to Africa, but i know in a dangerous game situation i would want to ability to quickly switch to iron sights or a reflex optic.
anyway, thats the reason I sought out this forum, to get more information, plan future trips,
I'm really interested in hunting the cape buffalo, Lions and other large cats, those are the most appealing to me, the only two animals that arn't appealing is the crocs (i've lived down the river most of my life, i swim with gators and eat them, no reason to travel for close to the same thing) and a giraffe
what advice do yall have for a noob?
