I was at the auctions and the lion (1 on liscence) and NO elephant (4 on liscence) were bought as the reserve price was so high. So can you explain how one gets this- is it a supplementary quota- if that is the case we would love to hear about it. Please can you post who BabweSafaris are maybe that will clear up a few questions. Regards Buzz

I am also curious as to why two zebra's are worth $2,400 MORE than a tuskless elephant??????

The lion is added to these camps at the reserve price. As you said it is still available so the quota may still be purchased. Hopefully Parks will stick to issuing only one lion this year with no exceptions. The reserve is a bit high but not compared to the price of lion in other African countries.

The zebra vs tusk less price issue comes about in the extra price in adding animals so there is sufficient bait for lion. It would be a problem to buy a lion and then not have enough other animals on the quota to make sufficient baits.

    Hi Rastaman

Thanks for the clarification on this. I presume the same action would be taken for the elephants that were unsold. Good luck and yes lets hope that the days of additional quotas to "fat cats" has finally come to an end!! Buzz

Ok would it not be better then to shoot the Tuskless Elephant cheaper then Zebra and plenty of bait.

    Bob

Lions & Leopards really really like Zebra's and it is a game animal that they are used to killing and eating. It was explained to me that it would compare to cat nip for our house hold cats.

While some parks have been trying to teach lions to kill and eat elephants with a limited degree of success, when they do kill an elephant it is usually the little - young ones that they go after.

With the over population of elephants the biologist-game department thought this one up. First the lion has to develop a liking to elephant meat, as with all creatures you go after the best tasting food first.

It makes a good volume of bait but all at one time. When it is hot you need a cooler or something to preserve.

We just had three more buffalo come available in the valley, not in the two parks areas. The camp would be primitive style also.
