Hey Marcel,
I got halfway thru the video and I was very impressed with the approach you were taking as far as keying on the "experience" more than the "shooting". Then the kill scenes started and to me, it took away from what made it stand out and be different. I know a lot of guys like the "kill shots". For me, not so much. Especially, the baboon arrowed between the eyes. Up until then, it was a great promo that my wife, kids and grandkids would have loved watching. I guess I thinking about all of the promo's that will be playing at booths at all of the shows that are around the corner. Every show I go too has alot of kids gathered around these screens while they are playing. Shots that drop them in their tracks....ok, no blood? ......ok......Just my thoughts.

Thank you for your reply, i'm slowly but surely starting to realize that creating the perfect promo video for all tastes are almost impossible, i've tried to combine what works for all sides in this promo and still there's stuff like you mentioned that can discourage others, for example the emphasis on the experience for first timers and family groups are important but on the other side the kill shots and things like the baboon head shot is show stoppers where people will crowd to watch, this is why i tried to combine the experience and hunting with short bursts of kill shots and more experience. Im starting to think of creating 2 promos rather, one kill shot and the other experience where the crowd determine which one to play/watch. Thank you for your comments as usual i always learn something from this forum i'ts highly appreciated. Marcel

Marcel,
Agreed. It is a impossible task to put together the "perfect" video that fits everyones taste. I hope I didn't come across too strong in my comments. If I were sitting around the deer camp with a bunch of guys, we would probably hit the back button numerous times on the baboon shot..lol

IMO - you asked for comment...
The picture with the power plant in the back ground should have been shot to take that part out of the picture.
The taking of game with a rifle at the water hole and grain trough should be left out unless you are showing a handicap person making those shots.
The Archery shots where the arrow shot were marginal should have not been shown or you should have included the tracking job that followed up the shot.
I also thought that some additional animal footage could have been between the shots taken.
The music was not to my taste, however it could be for others. I thought some good African music would have been better for the film clipJames Grage - New Mexico

Agree with James. Drop the powerplant and the mediocre archery shots and I think you'll have a winner. Personally, I liked the heavy guitar riffs, very driven/intense for a hunting video. All in all I say this video would appeal to almost everyone, as has already been said, you can not please everyone.

I agree the Baboon is a touchy one..
But for the life of me a cannot just leave it out, it just adds something, maybe debate..
The Music, it was on purpose i went to the more heavy music, tried something different..
Thanks, as always this forum is extremely valuable..

Great video, I think gearing it towards the younger generation with the heavier music will play out well for you. Gets people pumped up and excited, and that's what it's all about for me. awesome head shot on the baboon

Marginal shots are a reality but, you know in a promo video... not so much.
Music and the pace of the video... very creative.Practice whispering before you leave for Africa!

I have had to go over this video clip a few time.
Question becomes what market group are you going after...
a. 60 and above
b. 40 to 59
c. 20 to 39
as you are receiving feed back from the various groupings you can see that the responses varied.
from what i hear music is good or it is ok or even very good, look at the above again.
Your DVD clip maybe could have shown elderly - women - youth & disable and had a caption prior to the movie clips to support what will be shown.
Something i thought about seeing as you are making this DVD a production, Maybe you could tailor the music for the different age groups. And put a 1 - 2 -3 on the cover so when you pass a copy out to a potential client you have bases covered.
you know kind of like the movie industry where we can select the language for a movie.
In comparing your DVD to others in the market place here are a few tidbit to think about.
a. accommodation a few minutes to cover a couple of chalets or tents and outside area.
b. Central lodge a few minutes to cover the meals, camp fire and toddy's.
c. Introduction to staff - PH's Trackers - Cooks - Skinner's - Laundry
d. animals on the hoof for viewing - this gets the ooohhss and aahhhss at my place.
f. Different hunting styles - Rifle - Bow and physically assisted persons. with some footage of animals leading up to the shot.
h. plant, sunrises and sunset footage. another one that gets the Ohhs and Ahhs at the house.
From what i am seeing, we have anti hunting groups that will cherry pick DVD to select a few seconds to show taking an animal out of context. And we need to guard against that.
Wishing you well on your promotional DVD and when you have a finished copy, may i have one.James Grage - New Mexico
