zimbabwe leopard hunt with dogs
watch closely and you can watch the dogs chase the leopard back to us. the cat doesn't even seem disturbed by the dogs. However once the cat crossed over the rock and made eye contact with us it was clear to me he was going to be heading our way so I shot. Hope you enjoy
heres the cat up close

A little different than baited hunts!
Tony, you are so screwed. How are you going to top this???
Tuskless Elephants with a spear!! Crocodile Dundee - Crocs with a knife?
Absolutely impressed with the camera work.
Keeping track of the hunt and knowing what was going on the whole time.
Who ever was guarding "little t" was making sure that Leopard saw him first and not her.
She was right in on that hunt. Just great.
Which ever dog was leading that pack should get a big steak for dinner.
What a nose!
It was off alone on that cats butt while the others were still following.
It turned that cat back toward you alone. Amazing work.
Thanks.Practice whispering before you leave for Africa!

Very exciting hunt. The camera was in a great position to get the footage but I would have been a little nervous with the cat between the shooter and camera, but hey, when they charge you shoot, it is that simple.
The journey is the reward.

You are right about the charge. I had about 10 feet of sheer rock above the cat when I shot him at about 15 yards so I was pretty confident of where the bullet was going to go. Good thing the cat had to maneuver to my left to find a path to come to us and gave me a broadside shot. I did have one other opportunity to shoot before that but the cat was actually running just infront of the camera and my wife never noticed him so close. Thats why grahm was standing guard over my wife. He was absolutely protective of her and made me glad I had the crew I did. At one point rob had the shotgun pointing up the koppie, Peter had his lever action 444 marlin pointing to the cameras right so I decided to point in the last unprotected direction. We could hear the dogs coming back to us and Peter simply said keep your eyes peeled. Patches, the main dog, is bringing the cat back to us and I don't know where he's going to pop out at. Next thing we know is my wife is screaming at us that the cat was underneath us but we couldn't see it until it charged over the rock and I was forced to shoot out of shear self preservation. You can see how fast the cat exploded over that rock to come to us and it is still beside me how i hit him with a bolt action rifle on a dead run with only one shot. I guess I was calm because I knew rob had the shotgun and my back and it made me feel as if I could stand my ground. Just an awesome hunt.
heres a pic of all of us with the cat and one of the two dogs that are Peters lead leopard dogs. The other dog is roxie who is patches mother. Those two dogs are amazing.
here's patches with "her" cat.

Patches is my hero!
You said you saw a white flash in your other post.
Watching that Leopard come across that Koppie I can just imagine it.
When they are moving they look quite white. Never would have guessed that.Practice whispering before you leave for Africa!
