My two cents on the video: I could see the animals being shot, the accomodations, the food and the animals hunted which is great.

I would have like to seen more pictures of just the animals and the birds....no gun shots. I can tell you my wife would have hated all the shooting! More video of the surrounding terrain would have been better. Maybe client interviews on what they saw and hunted....wife and husband views.

Didn't care for the stabbing of the porcupine...just not something for video.

Thank you for the input, yes the porcupine, i do agree, but that was what the client insisted on ,why, well not sure..

i completely understand your point with more animals and living things rather than just shooting, i will surely keep that in mind in the next project we do..

    Thanks again for your input.

It is always very difficult to keep everybody happy i have seen it many times, we have produce several hunting dvd's over the years. For marketing in the US i use dvd's with lots of nature, accommodation and animals together with some hunting shots, same as what enysse is talking about. Then i go to Mexico and Spain show the same dvd and people loose interest in two minutes but show them shot after shot and they stand and watch till the last scene. I think you must choose your market and produce a movie for the market , yes it is expensive but it pays at the end of the day.
    Just my two cents.

It must be a culture difference....I have never understood the shot after shot video...for me it gives me a headache...especially hearing the gunfire one after another.

I guess you have to market to the target audience.

For me the ideal promo video would show some of the area, wildlife or accomodations then go to a hunt showing techniques that will actually be used then back to more area or acommodations, etc drifting back and forth between hunting and the other features you wnat to showcase to give a real solid impression of what is to be expected both in camp and afeild while also keeping interest. When I say hunt that is exactly what I mean not shooting, if you normally spot from the jeep then stalk then show that, if you normally hunt from blinds show that etc. Paint a real picture of life on a safari with you, after all anyone who actually is interested in hunting with you will want to see more than just shoot, shoot, shoot. People like that are more likely just watching a hunting video that happens to be playing in your booth. A good promo video will both draw you in and tell a story.
    The journey is the reward.

I think there is two types of promos that apply here, the one is at shows where there is allot of people moving through large areas, i think a high passed promo with
kill shots would be more effective.

Then there is the Promo used for websites and DVD's where people watch it in the comfort of their homes with time on their side, this should be more about the experience
    and the lodging/surroundings..

Would you agree on this ?

If you have to score 1 to 10 where would you guys say this promo rates ?

I liked it. One of the best I've seen for hunting footage.

I give it an 8.0. Good quality pictures.

It was too long for a quick 'snap and grab' promo. Those are the shot after shot versions.
If the porcupine spearing had been out in the bush then great, more of it. (would have liked to have seen 'the hunter' try and eat it Lol.)
The airport footage was good and alludes to the 'whole experience' DVD, Diamondhitch was talking about.
Push the International traveller/hunter angle a bit more. Say Cape Town & Vic Falls or Kruger, East Cape fishing, Restaurants, wineries.
You spend a lot of time on safari with people so show them. The trackers and camp staff.
It needs longer lasting Lapa footage at the end of the day with a drink.

The first section of 2 minutes was really well done. Was it shot by a different cameraman ?

Edit: There really aren't a lot of good promo videos out there. I know this is hard to do but if there is one or two things about your operation that makes it unique, different or more attractive than other operations then you need to capture that. Your clients must give you feed back, so listen to them and try and capture what that is. Your returning clients will be more elicit. Even if that something different is a personality or a picturesque view.

    Another sociological study completed.

I just watched a video that was enthralling. The hunter was sneaking up in long grass on Buffalo with the bow. All you could hear was his breathing and then his shot with the buffalo hit and running away afterward.
Listening to the breathing and excitement had me sitting right there with him on the edge of the computer screen. He was hunting, not just shooting.
It showed me everything I wanted to see.
    So, I guess culture wins.
Good question and good luck with your duplication of work for multiple markets.

Well i am getting the impression that there should be a good combination of content is such an video, What you will experience (Lodge ext), the experience (The Hunt) and then the excitement (Different animals hunted - Kill Shots)....

But then the main point i guess is KEEP IT REAL :-)

The clip is a little disjointed but getting there with a better selection of info.
Don't just jump into the kill shots. If my wife had been sent this on DVD and that happened she would have walked.
Lead into the hunt with the stalking, etc then....
The human interaction in the field is compelling (happy hunters, exciting stalks, pictures of the food (interactive as you have it) compelling.
You'll have to see what everyone else thinks. Good effort.

I think the kill shots right away would have turned off a couple booking a hunt, maybe alright for different cultures! Other than that I think it was great!

IMO, I don't think you have to show kill shots at all. Just happy hunters behind...there fine trophies...less is more!

My thoughts exactly, Great job but show a bit more 'hunting' (walking, spotting, planning the stalk) before the shots. Otherwise fantastic.

I also agree with some of what enysse has said, "less is more". You dont need as many kill shots if you have captured the essence of the hunt well. I personally think tasteful kill shots (quick, no blood, no big reactions or thrashing around) are great in moderation for the couple looking for a hunt.
    The journey is the reward.

I thought the video was quit good. A little more of the planing of the hunts and interaction between the PH and guest would give it a more personal feel, as this relationship is key to the enjoyment of the hunt.

My wife wouldn't care for as much killing and more nature and could show some of the other things to do for a non-hunting guest. For myself I feel that the killing is a real part of the hunt and needs to be seen as such. I didn't mind the stabbing as much as the indian dance after. I guess we all have our biases.

I like both some people don't like long videos so the shot would get to the point well.

A little too quick jumping around, but understand trying to show variety in a short space of time. Be OK for promotional.
