W.W Greener factory around 1900. The man on the left is the engraver who engraved the famous 'St George' gun.
The factory was demolished to make way for post-war reconstruction of the area

I can hardly think of a more dangerous sport, or rather sheer insanity other than hunting leopards with a spear, like these British and Indians in the days of the old Raj.
Please note the very large sidearms knives carried by the hunters tucked in the boot or belt.

The last female Jaguar shot in the United States of America
The last female Jaguar shot in the United States of America. As you might or might not know, lower US western states like Texas, Arizona and New Mexico were the northernmost range of the Jaguar habitat. They have never been present on constant or large numbers (no matter how much we'd love to see them) but occasionally they did appear. Before being acknowledged and offered full protection this was the last Jaguar shot in USA, more precisely in September 1963, near Big Lake in the White Mountains, Arizona, on the upper picture. In the lower picture you can see once again Terry Penrod fifty years later next to the skin of the same Jaguar he shot when he was 24 years of age, shown above.

Writer and hunter Peter Ryan: " I found this among my father's things, with an inscription in his handwriting. It was published in 'Top End Safari' by the talented Australian writer, Vic McCristal. The man is Burge Brown of Darwin River, Northern Territory. The bull has already taken one hit but is coming on again, horns down as he closes. He means business. The image was taken at the moment when the second shot was fired. The rifle won't be the expensive kind that people take hunting now. It's almost certainly the same one I learned to shoot with - just a cut down SMLE .303 - and hunting apparel has come a long way since the sixties. Courage, on the other hand, hasn't changed a bit. ~
