Black Rhinoceros Horns

Black Rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis), East Africa 1894-95, anterior and posterior horns, on period carved and stained wood shield. Anterior horn 47.5cm, posterior horn longest length 20cm, on an ebonised carved softwood paper scroll edged shield with shaped shoes to receive the horns, and with title inscription in white paint. This type of shield suggests a German hunting company catering for British clients at this time.
