Default Arizona Elk and Antelope Draw Results

If you've applied for an elk and/or antelope tag in Arizona, the results are now available online. I'll be archery hunting for antlerless elk. Wish it were bull again but that's just being greedy and it's better than not hunting!

Phoenix Phil and AZBowHunter that's Awesome !
Phil, that's 2 years in a row... I guess when you're hot you're hot! LOL!
I sure could use a little of that good luck after years of "Not drawn for Pronghorn"-"Not drawn for Elk"
Eric, you ought to be pretty close to being in the running for an early archery tag in the next go round.
Good luck fellas and good hunting!

TB, you have no idea how fortunate I've been with drawing tags in AZ. People routinely call me ugly names with the luck I've had. Brought the good luck from Idaho with me after I drew a moose tag the first time I tried. The only bad thing that happened this year was my antelope draw. After years of buying the bonus point, I finally applied for pronghorn in unit 19B. Due to a land closure, AZGFD closed the unit to all pronghorn hunting and I was shutout.

But as I say, I'll be hunting and the deer draw is yet to come, so no whining here.

Congrats! I hope they're bugling for you like they did for me last year. They wouldn't come to call for me, but they weren't afraid of calling back and letting me know where they were. I missed on a truly spectacular AZ bull, but still managed a 6x6. The easily most fun I've had elk hunting.

I used to hunt the late rifle hunt, in fact got my first 6x6 in that hunt the first year I tried. Unfortunately in my opinion that hunt has become a "run the gauntlet" stye hunt. Everyone has figured out where they move to for wintering grounds and it becomes a shooting gallery. I grew tired of this not to mention scared of the lead flying.

Switched back to archery hunting last year and have no intention of going back to rifle hunting in AZ. I'd recommend that if you're coming out of state to go archery. It may be more difficult and therefore less chance of success but still probably more fun. Good luck!

I have heard 19B, is a great hunt but you have to pay a trespass fee. Which I don't mind as long as the quality is good.

As far as elk, I'm seriously thinking of trying to draw 9 or 10 for elk, during the archery season. At one point I was going to try 8, but I have applied for a while and don't know if I'll do it again. After I draw my first elk tag...I might because I'll put in until I draw a desert bighorn sheep tag. And I like elk hunting!

I have been to Arizona few times, just visiting and I might retire there in 30 years or so. It's a very nice state!

It will definitely make for an easier and not to mention much more fun hunt if they're bugling. We tried calling some last year up by 4B where we have a cabin in Forest Lakes and didn't hear much other than at night. Regardless it will be a great hunt either way. What unit did you get your cow tag this year?

Concerning 19B and paying, that's not exactly correct. There are some private landowners who are indeed charging for access. But this has not been required to hunt the unit in the past. The reason for this shutdown was that access to private land that had normally been granted to all hunters was closed this year. The reason was something concerning an energy project taking place on the Chino Grande ranch. Rumor I got from another website is that it's a wind farm project and the companies that do this require that public access be limited. Sounds plausible but as I say, just a rumor.

I got my cow tag in 4B where I also drew my bull tag last year. I'm surprised you didn't hear much calling. The bulls were bugling big for me on opening weekend and the cows were chirping in the second weekend. I had one bull that I thought for a few moments was going to come right in and kick my butt. But what I learned I think is that you can call all you want and they'll come to within rougly 100 yards. However if they don't see another elk, they seem to hold up and don't commit.

I'm guessing your cabin is to the north of the highway just before the Bugles restaurant. I'm sure my buddy and I will be making several trips up the hill scouting and checking on my trail cam. Maybe we'll run into each other at Bugles? We have developed a liking for the prime rib there.

Friday night fish fry is always a favorite. I just pulled a camera down I had in that unit and the smaller bulls were still carrying their horns two weeks ago. The cows had an infatuation with my camera and actually broke the tab off that the lock goes through. (Bushnell Trophycam). Looks like I'll have to use the bear (or elk) box for it now. Filling your cow tag shouldn't be too difficult up there. Lots of cows almost every day at my camera.

Yeah it's kind of funny how the elk take notice of something new in the neighborhood. Some close ups from last summer and some other black critter.
