2-7 x 33 Redfield for .375H&H?

What do you guys think of putting a Redfield 2-7 x 33 Revolution series scope on a .375H&H?

Will it make it? Is it a good idea? Bad idea? Are Redfield made to handle the recoil of larger cartridges like the .375H&H, just like Leupold scopes can handle them?

Im a bit stuck with getting the right scope for my .375, cannot afford to get a Leupold it is out of my price range as I still need to fit it and get rings and base mounts etc Going on a hunt soon and budgeting for that too.

And yes I have looked for second hand Leupolds and others of quality that I know will handle the .375: they are either already sold, or the seller is selling it for 5$ less than what he bought it for ten years ago... Almost got a Lynx 1,75 - 5 for a very very good price but it never worked out.

I believe Leupold is marketing/making these Redfield Revolution scopes. I have had a lot of good luck with the Redfield Golden 5 star scopes in the past, and the fixed powers. I have not yet tried the Revolution scopes, but, feel that if Redfield was still the Redfield from years past, I would not be using Leupold scopes. I think that it would be a good scope for a 375. I am a big fan, just so you know.

Thanks, finally someone with years of experience with Redfield...and not just hearsay... I think with Warne QD mounts (as suggested by Frederik) the set-up will be awesome, though for now I might have to skimp on that and just use the stud type rings I have then buy a fitting base. I have never even heard of Redfield until two or so years ago and never considered buying one until now, so I was unsure of the capabilities. I believe I will take your experience with the Redfield as something to base my decision on. I am leaning towrds buying it.

How is the light gathering if you are shooting near dark? Would be my only concern about 33 objective.

Can't speak for the new Redfields. I have one on my win model 70 feather weight. Got the gun used(never fired) in 96 with the scope on it. It has served me well. Used it last year in SA. Now the 06 isn't a .375 but I feel it is as good as my Leupold I use on my slug gun.

..that's a pity. I use two Lynx scopes on my CZ .375, a 1-3x20 for bush work and a 4-12x42 longer shots. Both on Warne QD mounts. Would'nt change them for any other. Mike, the owner, is a great guy and their service is top class...

The areas I hunt are well lit, even in the thickest bush there will be light all day because there are no overhanging tree canopies etc. I wont be hunting in heavily wooded areas with very tall trees etc that cast shadows in the day time... Like those congo forests etc. My eyesight is pretty good and when hunting at dawn or dusk I will cope with the amount of light coming through the 33. Also not doing any night hunting. I figured getting this scope in 33 to try and keep the scope mounted as low as possible, I like a scope that is fitted on lower mounts as opposed to higher because I find it comfortable.

Yes, that was a shame not to get the Lynx but its all a-ok! The QD mounts I will have to skip for now but will invest in later...

Bought the Leupold VX1 3-9x40. Beautiful scope, quality, i'm happy. Fixed mounts: stud-ring type. Rings were lapped, scope fitted, and columnated free of charge. I had a spare set of rings so I used them. Will get QD Mounts later (if I had purchased the QD Mounts now it would have cut into my Wildebeest funding!). Later IF I need a scope of 1-4x magnitude I will purchase it, nothing is certain so I figured rather get a scope that can handle relatively close as well as relatively far ranges like a 3-9x. Im pretty happy, only that I wanted to get the QD mounts for events like BASA at least. Hope the 3x will suffice for BASA in the mean time!

Now I want to float the barrel as the left fore-end of the stock is touching(resting against) the barrel, otherwise I did the 'paper test' and the barrel is free floating after that point, so I figure its nothing to hard to do - a little sand paper and a coating afterwards...youtube is great! Then I must still drill pilot holes for the sling swivel holes in the stock, nothing too hard too. The embedding I will pay a gunsmith to do as well as getting it pillared(spelling).
