From 1973, Jean-Michel LATRIVE operated in Burkina Faso, Uganda, the Cameroon and ten years in the Central African Republic, he came to Tanzania in 1991. Jérôme LATRIVE, his first son, was trained intensively in Central African Republic by his dad and in South Africa by Danie Van Graan from Engonyameni Safaris, one of the best professional hunter in Southern Africa. He joined his dad as a full professional hunter in Tanzania in 1991. Together these two men were about to build one of the most widely recognized and esteemed safari companies, not only in France but in other countries too. No further proof is needed than a regular clientele that keeps coming back year after year.

The success of the Latrive, which has become internationally recognized as one of the best operations in Tanzania, is due not only to the well knit team that runs it but also to the down-to-the-last-detail organization, the atmosphere within the camps, the ethical hunting policies which are applied and the skillful management of the wildlife resources available in each zone. This is what ensures success for the hunter. The Latrive enjoys such an excellent reputation today not just because of its outstanding success rate particularly with the cats (Lion and Leopard), elephants and buffaloes but also because of a zero defect approach to the whole safari.

We recognize that from the initial welcome, through charter aircraft to camps, food, camp vehicles, staff, trails and trophy preparation, each one has to be as near perfect as possible in addition to the quality of the hunt if the whole Safari is to be an unqualified success. Indeed, to ensure that no detail can be overlooked or left to chance each of the hunting guides spends two or three months in the territory before the season opens.

As far as the hunting itself is concerned it must be recognized that, whilst Tanzania contains some of the most plentiful game reserves in the whole of Africa, these reserves are not inexhaustible and trophies taken have, therefore, to be prudently managed and controlled. Strict hunting management, anti poaching and community development project keep the Latrive hunting areas some of the best in Tanzania.
