Big Cats In Australia

You might find the above heading interesting. Here in
Australia we've been hearing about large felids
roaming around the australian bush for years. Google:
(Australian Big Cats) and have a look at it. It's becoming
such a contentious issue over here, the public are
pushing the Federal and State governments to hold
an enquiry to do something about it. True or not I'll
leave it to the forum.

same reports in the uk about big cats roaming around. at least its warmer in certain parts of australia.

We've had big cats for years here in the states they think we've got Big Foot to.

A little off topic, but the Bigfoot comment reminded me of something I was thinking the other day watching a commercial for one of those reality shows. They're all searching for Bigfoot in this one, but here's the thing - they're unarmed!

If I really believed in Bigfoot and was searching for him in the dark woods at night, I wouldn't go unarmed - I'd bring the biggest gun I could get and a couple of friends with the biggest guns they could get!

Haven't seen the show (thankfully) so just an observation.

We've got Yowies over here in Aus. I suppose at times, it depends on what you're drinking and how much you've drunk. I don't know. There's a lot we still don't know about this planet. I think I'll keep a bloody big gun beside me when I go bush next time.

The thing is Bob, they're not native to Australia; they think. There was one shot about 10 years ago and the hunter blew his head off with a 7mm Mag. Apparently he was out sambar hunting and noticed this animal stalking him, It then charged him and he got lucky with a head shot that took most of the head off. There were photos of it in a magazine called Sporting Shooter. Go Figure.

Yeh I've seen some documentaries on the subject. The sightings seem to be more predominant because of the smaller land mass and greater population in the UK.

Once had a "Black Panther" scare in my neighborhood when I was a teenager in LA California USA. Called out the police and animal control. Lights flashing everywhere. I saw it as it ran away across a field. We all agreed it was a black cat alright but 20 lbs of household pussycat. Seemed some "woman" saw it and got scared ( I know I'll take a beating for that comment :=) Big Foot????? Big cats in Australia???? Maybe one ran away from a zoo? :-)

wew certainly have some feral cats thriving in the bush down in eastern vic . we have our own policy with them when stalking samba wayne and that is dogs before deer and cats before anything . and young kody exercises that thought to it fullest and has quite a collection of skulls .
in some places they are wrecking the wild life completely .
the biggest one i have seen was probly a 20 kilo model and it was in the middle of a paddock at 11am as i was walking back to the car after an unsuccessful hunt ,but i wasnt allowed to hunt this place .i tried to take some photos of it but it slipped over the bank of a dam and im pretty sure it holed up in downed gum tree on the other side .the owner is pretty green and even though i tried to talk to him about it i was told to f*** **F this guy is a local cray fisherman and even when we shoot a deer in the bush surrounding the property he comes and gives us a spray .
ive tried to get his number to call him to let him know when we will be in the area to put him at ease but just digs his heels in the dirt .every spring theres a few cats shot in the area though .they give his lambs a fair hiding .
what was that a bout a yowie ......
ithink it more depends on what they are smoking than drinking or maybe they ate some wild mushrooms .

Hi Cliff. The zoo theory has been bantered around over here for years. The other theory is when the Americans came over they brought over mountainlions as mascots. They reckon they released them into the bush before going home after the war. The sightings have described cats as abig as dobermans, heavily muscled, agile and are very partial to domestic animals especially dogs. We are not talking about 1 or 2 sightings were are talking about a couple of thousand sightings in different areas.

I've got an open mind on the subject Bluey. But I suppose it would help the fantasy if one had an addictive habit. Far out man.

Clearly our Australian brothers are not familiar with Mountain Lion or Cougar hunting so I will share a tip or two that should put you on them in no time.

First, they respond to bait very well, but, you have to use the right one to really be effective

Now, over here what we have found that works best is a solitary jogger ... I am not sure why that is, perhaps an unnatural attraction to Adidas running shoes or something, not sure but it seems to work.

Although I haven't experienced it personally, I have heard from sources in California and Colorado that lone mountain bikers have also proven effective, especially repairing a flat early in the morning on a deserted trail.

So there are two effective techniques, a lot is going to be determines by local preference (by the cat) but something along those lines should work

Ive seen plenty of good clear, undisputable video of Bigfoot (Sascquatch). Oddly enough in each one he is carrying a case of Kokanee beer.

Gosh, I don't know how you missed the memo, it was determined earlier this year that the critter referred to by various names, Big Foot, Sasquatch, Yeti, my ex-wife's attorney, among others is, in actuality, the drummer for BlackBerry Smoke, a struggling Southern rock band out of Atlanta.

This was confirmed by comparing dates and locations of sightings with the band's tour schedule.

Know what, I did read about that. The article I read said that it was the bass player though.

The way the government is behaving over here, we've got about 200 live running baits. Somehow I think the cats would think that they would be on the nose and drive that cats out of the area. You never know; they may even build boats and make their way to Malaysia. I but do love the suggestion.

yeah this big cat was jet black .im not the only one that had seen it but,over nearly two years he had been seen by half a dozen hunters and at least that many cow cockies. me young bloke tried to get in on him over about three months he tried with baits in trees hanging off branches and wired to the base of trees ,these consisted of rabbits deer legs and one tin of whiskers cat food he put cameras on each time and spent many hour in treestands ,all though he got some photos of cats ,crows ,hawks and eagles , he never got to see him .
then the sightings just stopped and i havnt heard of it for a long time now.
this guy wasnt no panther or cougar but he definately had some size about him i rekon his body would have been at least 800 mm long and stood400 at the shoulder
i would have loved it if kody had of knock him over
now the yowie thing down here the local aboridgines (kooris)have one they call BRAUNE not sure if it spelt correctlyand he is of some lost tribe from the dreamtime or something and is human in every way except he has the hooves of a goat and tries to lure you away into the bush ,cant say ive ever heard of anyone been taken but every time im hunting and come across a work team from the mission i do notice they look at my feet everytime

Good advice. Even if the cat does not get shot, at least you get rid of a jogger or mountain biker each try!
