Thanks for comments,PT your enthusiasm is well received.
No of course not,its drier than a dead dingo`s donger atm. Still I am seeing a few deer here and there early AM`s and right on dark. I`m always on the lookout for a decent pic of a hard to get species.

arent we all it seems to be harder to get a good handheld photo of a samba stag than it is to shoot one .and thats a feat in in it self

I do take plenty of pics but many are buggered due to low light earl/late in the day..real sambar hours of course.I do catch a few out though and thats mainly well off the track where they are a little more relaxed, here are three different spikeys from recent times. Some in bush and one caught out in the open when he whiffed me and shat and ran wide.

A stag head down with wallow mud on his rump and a few others I have been lucky enough to capture.

A diff cast stag late last year,I was so piissed off when i ran into him as i was hurrying to get close to another stag that was in velvet and he held me up on the way,I had to prop as I didnt want him yodelling.

Thank you.
That last bloke has about 20 pics of himself in my file,he is a last years model and if he has survived the illegal spot lighters he will be a real 'good un ' this year for sure.We have plans for him but sambar being what they are we may never see him again!
A few more roughies loaded.

Being on farmland is where they get lit up,yes plenty get shot off the roads but lots get shot in farmland too. Where he is looks pretty tame but its a 3 k walk in som very steep country, this is what has helped keep him going as the germs cant even get quads in there. We have been back after him without seeing a hair.
All of those deer pics have been taken on a 250 square kilometre patch,in on, and all over it.Its a diverse patch as in heavy state bush, blackberry thicket country, farm fringe bush, creek flats, wattle banks and open spurs. I do a fair bit of travel looking at the 'good spots' when the time should be right. Had bad luck tonight as I pulled on a young stag with my camera and came up with "no card" wtf? I had left it on my desk today so I went for the spare and it wasn't in my daypack so I spat it,walked out and came straight home,I`m still rope able.

I used to hunt Tassy but my contact passed away. I know others there but its not the same with my old mate gone so I haven't been back for a few years, might get up to NSW next month for a look at some Fallow country myself.
