I'm just starting to plan my next hunt in RSA ans I'm thinking of hunting a hyena. Have any of you guys hunted hyena before? If so, how did your hunt go? It's the spotted hyena I'm wanting to hunt. Pictures would be appreciated.

It is worth it, you should do it.
I hunted for hyena in 2009 in dande south in Zim, we shoot some baboons averyday and used them for bait then hunted for a few hours everynigth waiting for a hit that in my case never happened while we were on watch at nigth but in all honesty just being in the dark of the nigth in the dominion of simba and chuy is worth it. You will never forget the experience of the nigth watch.
I can send you a picture of a hyena, hunted this year
Taken in the Luangwa Valley, Zambia off a Croc used as bait in 2010.

Mounted by Jerry Huffaker in Texas
I have tried thrice now with no success. I have seen them in Tanzania and Botswana but wasnt hunting them then. Be sure you ask any prospective outfitters what they offer as you may find when you get there that "hyena" means brown and not spotted. Must ask.
That Hyena was taken in 2010 but Jerry is quite fast. He did quite a bundle for us that year and will have our stuff from this year as well when it gets here.
Can the brown hyena be imported into the USA? I thought I seen something about requiring cities or something.
I could have taken a Hyena on the Zim side of the Limpopo river in broad daylight. It was mid morning and we were looking for Kudu and Eland and saw one sunning it self on a rocky out crop about mid morning. The shot would have been around 150 meters, but alas Hyena was not on my want list so it lived for someone else. I am told that this is quite a rare opportunity, and we enjoyed watching it for about half houre before continuing with the hunt.
I shot brown hyena. It's an interesting hunt and a rare trophy.Permits available.

Frostbit, I love you hyena mount, it sure is life like!
Where is "this' Hyena on bait? KZN??? I might have a hunter for you
The Hyena I'm talking about is a Brown Hyena (not importable into the USA I'm afraid) and he is on bait right here on my ranch. No teasing - here is a pic from my trailcam taken last month. I've been hunting away from home so haven't downloaded pics from the last month but he's been coming in religiously since May...
