To me, and I believe to most people, it will remain big 5.
The threat to your life remains there. A tuskless ele is as dangerous as any other. It will still trample you to the ground. As for a lioness - who does most of the hunting in the pride? She will do as much damage as the male...
Thats just my opinion though....
If you shoot a female species it is considered part of the "BIG 5". A lot of people have completed the "BIG 5" by taking a female lion or tuskless female elephant.
As info, There are tuck-less bull elephants.
And yes they are part of the big five...unless you can find where they are not....and provide the information to support it.
Cape Buffalo cows are also a big 5 animal...i surprised you did not bring that one up...
Plus, female rhinos are a big 5 animal...
Thanks for the info. I always considered female species part of the big 5, just didn't know if anyone else did. If I ever get to complete my dream of 4 of the 5 (rhino will never happen on my budget), I know that most likely a lioness and tuskless will be involved. Again thanks.
I never thought about it before you brought it up actually.
I can not find any mention of sex in the definition anywhere.
There are places to Dart (Green hunt) Rhino!!!
SCI considers this in their records for the BIG 5!
I still have to get a picture of a Lion to finish off my BIG 5 with the "white gun". (Camera)
I have heard that a South African safari company proposed "vitamin darting" and that it not recognized by SCI as a "green hunt" for Rhino. Anyone have any more recent info as to whether "green hunts" for Rhino will be ever be reconsidered in the near future?
Here is the article I am talking about: -http://huntforever.wordpress.com/2012/10/04/rhino-darting/
Any new info on whether this is true would be appreciated!
FYI: Some further research: it appears it IS again legal to enter a vita-darted rhino into SCI book for "Big 5" status. See article by Herb Atkinson, Chairman , SCI Record Book & World hunting Awards Committee. Article is dated October 4, 2012, in "Within SCI."
