Huge Buffalo Hunt - Hartzview Hunting Safaris
Hello guys,
Just wanted to post this quickly as I know you guys will enjoy this.... We hunted buffalo in the Chikwala Kwala Concession next to Sengwe 1 in Zimbabwe in conjunction with a very good friend of mine, Quinn Kloppers of Threeway Safaris.
My client Mr. John Martins had a request for a 40" buffalo which was already a high request for Zimbabwe. I knew the Chikwala kwala are is bordering the Kruger Park and if there is any area we would find a bull in this range this would be it! We saw a lot of big tracks in the first couple of days crossing over into the area but could not get close to any of the bulls in the thick jesse as they would spook before we could get a good look at them. The 6th morning I decided it was time to start walking the hills as Quinn and John check the watering holes for fresh tracks. The first hill I got on I spotted the magnificent buffalo bull feeding in the morning sun. I called Quinn on the radio and within a couple of minutes they were with me. We looked at the bull grazing for probably 2hours trying to figure out a plan to get close enough for a shot and hoping that he would feed down hill towards us. We quickly learned that this is not going to happen as he was heading to a bedding spot on top of the hill, we eased down to a valley where we could get into a position for a shot.
After waiting about another 10minutes for him to clear John put a shot into him, the shot was a little low but broke the front leg but did hit the bottom part of lung. After tracking the blood for about a hour the buffalo did what any wounded buffalo do and headed straight for the thick jesse on the walls of the Limpopo river.... We got the dogs to help us with baying the buffalo in the thick stuff. After following the dogs for about an hour a tracker and couple of dogs came flying by us from the front and we heard the bush breaking as the buffalo came charging straight at us.... I put in the first shot and hit him a little high but managed to turn him, after that Quinn gave him a shot from the back as he diss appeared into the thick jesse again. After listening closely for a couple of minutes we heard the dogs barking, we slowly approached the barking to find the buff down but still alive, gave him an insurance shot and all was done.
John is very happy with this bull of a lifetime and has a unbelievable hunt to go with such a great trophy! Congratulations John!
Hope you guys enjoy and if anybody is interested in hunting the same area please feel free to contact me at js@hvsafaris.com at anytime!
P.S: I will post better quality pictures once I am back in the office! ;-)
Best regards,
Jacques
