Question about tracking lions
Sorry if this has been answered before, but it seems like everytime i watch a lion hunt on tv they use bait. Do people still track lions? I'm not trying to bash baiting, but it would be my personal preference to track so i want to know if tracking is still available. Thanks.

I have heard of it being done.
Aaron loves lion hunting "too" much. He'll know as many other outfitters may know someone offering this type of hunt.

The closest I'm probably going to get to lion hunting is mountain lion hunting here in the U.S. But if memory serves me correctly there are some countries where lion can only be done by tracking. Seemed like more of the central African countries. Burkina Faso perhaps?

Tracking Lion is not uncommon. However, it is not commonly done as the 'primary' way of hunting unless you have Bushmen trackers like in Botswana. They cover vast areas of ground at night and the hunting of Lion purely by tracking them is very time consuming! Wounded Lions are tracked as they usually don't go far and you are a coupla grand in the hole! :0)

I have just returned from zim and was told when I was there that John Sharpe hunts lions by tracking. I was also told that there are a few places where bushman are used in the Kalihari and no baits are nec. This is a long and time consuming method of hunting lions. I am going strictly on hearsay and have not been fortunate enough to hunt lions yet. Maybe one day.

As far as I know, in RSA lion hunting using bait is not permitted. It has to be tracked.

Good morning gentleman,
We specialize in lion hunting and only hunt by tracking these majestic animals on a ethical and natural way. I have some good offers on hunts if you are interested please feel free to ask any questions. We do hunt in South Africa and I want to make it clear that these lion have been released in a big area where they are self sustainable. There is other plainsgame animals in the same area for the lions to hunt and the evidence is prominent when tracking.
I know this is a sensitive subject for a lot of hunters and outfitters from other countries but I would like to ask that we keep this thread clean and not convert it into a discussion on what has gone wrong in the past in this industry. Leave that for a thread on its own please.
Thank you guys,
