Took one, a Sable in Zimbabwe - missed a big Warthog! Hubby and our son, 9 at the time, were also hunting so got a nice variety of plains game.

I took 9 on my first trip, to the Limpopo region of South Africa: Kudu, Gemsbok, Limpopo bushbuck, Black wildebeest, blesbok, Waterbuck, and 3 Impala.

I went back 5 years later and shot a Buffalo and Chobe bushbuck in Zimbabwe, then south to Kwa-Zulu Natal for Nyala, Zebra, Common reedbok, Blesbok, and a Common Duiker. Then I continued on to the Free State and shot a Red hartebeest, Black wildebeest, a Common springbok, and a Mountain reedbuck.

Two years later I returned to South Africa and hunted 4 or 5 properties or concesstions from Kimberly to Port Elizabeth and shot a Cape kudu, 2 Gemsbok, a Tsessebe, a Cape Eland, 2 Steenboks, a Jackal, a Bontebok, a Vaal Rhebok, a Cape bushbuck, a Black springbuck, a Red Lechwe, and a Cape Grysbok.

I have booked a hunt starting July 1st in the Limpopo region of South Africa for Sable and some other plains game animals that have not hunted on previous trips.

I went to Namibia and in 10 days took 8 - Hartebeest, Impala, Kudu, Eland, Springbok, Gemsbok, Steenbok and a Mtn Zebra.

The hardest hunt was the Mtn Zebra, the most exciting was the Gemsbok taken in the Kalahari

managed 17 animals on my 1st trip.

like a dummy i passed on baboons and vervets . also passed on a mediocre red hartebeest that didn't quite excite me at the moment and i regreted later. outfitter didn't know that i wanted as many trophy warthogs as he could show me until the hunt was almost over or i would've shot prolly 6 or 8 more animals. while hunting bushpigs on a drive i had a fairly nice warthog leap over my feet while sitting at the base of a tree, ph watched and noticed i didn't even flinch and it was because i wanted to hang him on my wall and didn't know i could've nailed him until he was long gone. after a quick powwow my ph said i can have as many warthogs as i want. got 2 more after that.
( darn it ! didn't get my bushpig that trip. )

my advice to 1st time safari folks is to let your ph know your wishes and for ph's to inform your clients what game is available.

I have always been asked by outfitter or booking agent what animals I wish to hunt, so the PH know's up front what you want. Make it a point to again discuss this your first day out. If you have a certain horn size make this known too.

I shot 7, springbuck, impala, mountain zebra, gemsbuck, waterbuck, kudu, and blue wildebeest, and just returned a month ago. Have already booked my next trip for 2013. And if I hit the lottery, I'll go back every year....

Took 6 in the Limpopo. Kudu, Gemsbok, Steenbok, Impala, Blue Wilderbeest and Warthog.

Been back three times since, going again as often as I can. This disease that is Africa is incurable, I'm certain of it.

I modified a 8 day - 8 animal package into a 10x10 and then went and shot 22 animals, including 2 each of Kudu, Zebra, Gemsbok, Blue Wildebeest and Red Hartebeest, 1 each of Giraffe, Eland, Waterbuck, Impala, Warthog, Ostrich, Steenbok and Porcupine, plus 4 Black-backed Jackal.

Definitely the time of my life, and I rebooked there before I ever even really got started good!

I love me some African Safari!
